Scope: The Regional Throughput Engineer's responsibility is to increase the overall productivity of the region by analyzing facility performance utilizing key metrics: Corrugator MSF/hour, Converting MSF/hour, maintenance budget, and electrical & mechanical downtime. The Regional Throughput Engineer will also have influence in assisting the region on capital allocation decisions and defining implementation strategies.
To effectively impact performance, the Regional Throughput Engineer should understand effective throughput management with ability to lead & speak to troubleshooting efforts, familiarity with maintenance budgets, and comfort working with key suppliers & creating influence without authority.
The Regional Throughput Engineer will work closely with a variety of different groups and departments within NAPS, reporting directly to the Region General Manager with functional reporting to the Area Manufacturing Manager.
The Job You Will Perform:
Support health, safety, & environmental efforts throughout facility in creating layers of protection for all team members. Conduct Gemba walks traditionally to identify opportunities for improvement including ECP boards and lock-out procedures.
Conduct SWOs for each plant visit.
Identify bottlenecks within plants and aid in the development of plans to increase machine speed (Corrugator, Converting, & Shipping).
Analyze machine setups and identify best practices for time reduction.
Communicate effectively and provide manufacturing support to plant leadership.
Identify quality issues coming from the corrugator & converting and provide best practices for solution.
Communicate any major issues with paper to Region Leadership.
Support EHS & Food Safety Audit Readiness.
Perform root cause analysis on major reliability incidents & correct physical, human, and latent root causes. Coordinate with corporate engineering for corrective action. Track ongoing best practices to prevent critical failures.
Communicate effectively with engineering on troubleshooting failures and providing solutions.
Audit and teach compliance on key infrastructure to run manufacturing (boiler, starch kitchen, compressor room, waste carts, etc.).
Ensure machine center lining tests.
Provide budget support for maintenance and reliability plans.
Maintain Region Material Equipment List for all plants.
Ability to assist & assure both monthly waste and MSF/HR plans are effective and being implemented. Utilize Kiwi & PowerBI to drive ongoing throughput improvement.
Continuously monitor waste throughout the month in Kiwi to ensure proper input is being entered.
Support capital project development from FEL0 status and 5 Year Capital Priorities with RGM & Region Controller (preliminary DCEs, CIP Summary, Cost Savings, Project Timeline, Soliciting Quotes, etc.) Target key return-on-investment savings.
Work with Maintenance to establish and confirm sufficient PM programs (SAP) for all machines in the facility. Maintenance Indices & Spare Parts Programs. Establish machine champions.
Provide expertise for sourcing (SAP) and communicating with sister plants on spare parts, logistics, and delivery.
Assist in project start-up activities and track project progress through close out with corporate engineering.
Communicate with plant maintenance on capital project purchase orders.
Maintain key vendor relationships for OEMs at plants in the Region.
Utilize AutoCAD for facility and capital projects (machines, conveyor, infrastructure, etc.)
Utilize data analytics & statistical methods for practical decision-making with plant leadership.
The Skills You Will Bring:
BS/BA in Engineering; preferred Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial
3+ Years of manufacturing experience
Experience in a heavy industrial environment in operations and/or maintenance
Corrugated packaging manufacturing experience preferred
