Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
East Carolina University (ECU) located in Greenville, North Carolina is a public research university in the University of North Carolina System. ECU has eight primary undergraduate colleges, as well as a graduate school and specialized professional schools including the Brody School of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine. Campus Operations is a major unit in the Administration and Finance Division of ECU with approximately 500 employees and annual budget in excess of $30 million. The Campus Operations organization includes Facilities Engineering & Architectural Services, Facilities Services, and Housekeeping Services. Campus Operations is responsible for the support of all University real property including buildings, infrastructure, and grounds. Responsibilities on the University's Main, Health Sciences, West Research Campuses, and satellite locations associated with ECU programs include major and minor renovations and construction; corrective and preventive maintenance and repairs by utilities services (controls, electrical, HVAC, life safety, plumbing, central steam and chilled water operations), building services (carpentry, locksmith, masonry, paint, roofing), automotive services; maintenance of grounds by grounds services, recycling, refuse removal, sustainability; moving services and housekeeping services support of academic, administrative, athletic, classroom, clinical, dining, laboratory, library, performing arts, and residence life spaces.
Primary Purpose of Position
Primary responsibility will be, but not limited to, driving a front-end loader garbage truck, collecting refuse on the ECU campus. Other duties include driving Hook-lift trucks for campus roll-off containers, cleaning and maintaining refuse truck and university dumpsters, managing campus dumpster report, as well as non-refuse related activities in the Grounds Department. Overtime required as needed.
Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires appropriate licenses or certifications to operate assigned types of vehicles or equipment.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation
NC commercial driver's license
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Previous experience with a medium to large size institutional operation dealing with refuse removal on a consistent basis preferred. Experience operating a front-end loading refuse truck is desired.
