Position Overview

The Referrals Associate III at our Carolina Family Patient Support Services location in Wilson, NC, arranges and tracks referrals requested by providers to outside entities and tracks designated diagnoses as requested by providers. This position reports to the Referrals Supervisor.

THIS POSITION OFFERS A 40-HOUR WORKWEEK, NO WEEKENDS, FULL BENEFITS PACKAGE, 12 PAID HOLIDAYS, BI-WEEKLY PAY.

Essential Tasks

• Monitors the referral work queues daily for incoming referrals that need processing. • Evaluates the patients insurance status, the details of the referral, and patient assistance program options in order to obtain the appointment on behalf of the patient, taking into consideration the patients insurance status, county of residence, and patient assistance program guidelines. • Obtains insurance authorization for referral appointments through various insurance provider portals when necessary. • Inputs referral requests into various systems. • Communicates with the medical and dental providers if additional information is needed. • Schedules referral appointments. • Documents clearly in the patients electronic health record system any activity or communication with specialty offices or other individuals in regards to securing the appointment. • Communicates the appointment details with the patient or the patients parent/guardian in writing by phone or through patient portal. • Has access to summary data with the clear understanding that access and reading is limited to their scope of training and duties. • Perform other duties as assigned.

Comply with all standards related to Customer Service. Adhere to CFHC Inc. compliance program standards, including quality improvement, risk management, and standards of conduct.

Experience and Education

High School diploma or GED or Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Medical Office Administration. Minimum one to five years of similar experience. Electronic Health Record system experience is required. Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally. Must be professional, detail-oriented, and organized. Familiarity with medical terminology is preferred but not required. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Schedule

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, 8-hour shift, Day shift

Physical Requirements

Individuals may need to sit or stand for long periods of time, occasional bending, stooping, lifting, including of patients, reaching forwards and overhead. Possibly requires walking primarily on a level service for periods throughout the day. Both proper lifting techniques and frequent computer work are required. Must be able to travel freely in the local area between clinics, hospitals, health departments, etc.

Job Type Full-time Base Pay The starting pay for this position is $12.36 hourly for the Referrals Associate I and $15.00 hourly for the Referrals Associate II. Please keep in mind that actual salary will vary based on various factors such as qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the roles.
