Receives referral/authorization via fax, email or verbal. Reviews patient benefits for referral/authorization process. Initiates call to physician offices or Payer to complete referral process. Provides updates to patients/offices regarding referral/authorization status.

Qualifications:

Education: High school education or equivalent

Experience: Medical office experience preferred

Other:

  • Office operations and computer literacy.
  • Additional languages preferred but not required.
  • Must possess good organizational and communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • Initiates referral process in a timely manner
  • Establishes a good rapport with clinics coworkers and patients.
  • Obtains and communicates appropriate information from providers and nursing staff
  • Maintains an excellent relationship with clinics and coworkers (integrated and non-integrated clinics)
  • Reviews referrals generated by clinics to assure all information is accurate and complete. Updates as necessary.
  • Documents all interactions as appropriate.
  • Assists with training/support of clinic coworkers.
  • Identifies areas of opportunity indicating the need for additional training.
  • Contacts the patient regarding the referral status in a timely and compassionate manner.
  • Responds to patient inquiries in a timely manner
  • Reviews and understands referral status reports.
  • Can identify areas in need of improvement and provide detailed explanation and problem-solving solutions.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality. Has an understanding of HIPPA regulations
  • Represents Mercy at public and professional meetings and conferences as requested.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 185 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who wanted to help the poor women and children of Dublin. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill her dreams. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to poor women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, the first religious order not bound to the rules of the cloister, whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. By the time Catherine died in 1841, there were convents in Ireland and England, and in 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States.
