Job Description
Refrigeration/Diesel Technician is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of transport refrigeration units in the field. You will be based at our Lititz Shop, but operate out of a company-supplied box truck, and be responsible to travel to other Sauder’s Egg locations to address breakdowns and performing scheduled maintenance to keep fleet refrigeration units running at peak performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diagnosis and Repair:
- Accurately maintain and repair on transport refrigeration units (Carrier and Thermo King)
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant system issues
- Perform refrigerant recovery, recharge, and leak testing in compliance with EPA 608 regulations
- Conduct brazing operations for refrigerant line repairs and component replacements
- Utilize diagnostic tools and service manuals to identify and resolve issues.
- Preventative Maintenance:
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections to maximize unit uptime
- Tool and Equipment Operation:
- Proficiently use a variety of hand and power tools, including power drills, saws, air tools, and impact guns.
- Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate inventory of parts and supplies stocked on the company service truck
- Complete service documentation, work orders, and parts usage records accurately and in a timely manner
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Teamwork and Communication:
- Follow instructions from supervisors and management.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management.
- Bring potential problems to management.
- Flexibility and Availability:
- Respond to after-hours and weekend service calls.
- Travel between company locations as needed (company vehicle provided).
- Work overtime as required.
- Compliance:
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures found in the employee handbook.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in refrigeration unit repairs, refrigeration diagnostics
- EPA Section 608 Type II Refrigerant Handling Certification (required)
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Hands-on experience with both Carrier and Thermo King refrigeration systems
- Strong organizational skills for managing parts inventory and tool inventory on a service truck
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals and technical documents.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- Class A CDL
- Class 7 State Inspection License
- Computer experience
Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to50 lbs, bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing.
- Ability to work in various positions, including under and on top of vehicles.
- Ability to enter and exit vehicle cabs multiple times daily.
- Ability to hook and unhook trailers.
- Must be able to properly grasp and use hand tools.
Work Environment:
- Work may be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Potential exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, and other irritants.
Schedule:
- Tuesday-Saturday 8:00am - 5:00pm or 7:00am - 4:00pm
