Job Summary

The REDCap Data Specialist manages the REDCap system, building databases, designing data collection forms, ensuring data integrity, handling user access, and supporting research teams in clinical/health studies, requiring skills in data management, research protocols, and IT. They act as the go-to expert for setup, troubleshooting, and compliance.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

  • DATA MANAGEMENT: Design, create, and manage REDCap data collection forms, surveys, and databases for clinical trial data. Oversee user permissions and ensure compliance with clinical trial regulations and institutional policies. Develop efficient workflows for clinical data capture, tracking, and reporting in REDCap. Handle the entry, cleaning, validation, and formatting of clinical trial data across various databases.
  • PROJECT COORDINATION: Assist research teams in building and customizing REDCap projects (forms, surveys, longitudinal setups, branching logic). Validate project configurations for accuracy and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. Support advanced REDCap features such as eConsent, survey queues, automated invitations, and calculated fields.
  • TRAINING: Conduct training sessions for new users and advanced workshops for project builders. Develop user guides, FAQs, and best-practice documentation. Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for REDCap-related inquiries.
  • COMPLIANCE: Implement data validation rules and quality checks. Ensure adherence to HIPAA, IRB, and institutional data security policies. Assist with audit preparation and compliance reporting.
  • OTHER: Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Health Informatics, Information Systems, or related field, and a minimum of three years of experience with database building and support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in academic or clinical research settings.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools (Excel, R, or Python).
  • Understanding of APIs and data integration concepts.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • KNOWLEDGE: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Understanding of best practices for data collection, storage, security, and integrity in research settings. General knowledge of database principles and basic database query tools. Knowledge of data privacy regulations, such as HIPPA.
  • SKILLS: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills. Skill in performing data cleaning, validation checks, and generating data quality reports. Effective communication skills to collaborate with research teams, train users, and translate technical information effectively. Strong analytical skills to interpret data requirements and assist with data analysis. Strong attention to detail to ensure data accuracy.
  • ABILITIES: Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to collaborate and work effectively as part of a research team.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of the standard business hours may be required) Pay Band: B11 Salary: $56,600/annually-$60,000/annually Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position Recruitment Period: Until Filled Augusta University offers a variety of benefits to full-time benefits-eligible employees and some of our half-time (or more) employees.
