Position Information

Winthrop Position Title Recruitment, Communications, and Graduate Student Support GA Job Purpose

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will support the Graduate School in recruitment communications, social media engagement, and student lifecycle processes including admissions and graduation tracking. This role provides hands-on experience in higher education administration, marketing, and student services while assisting with day-to-day operations.

The GA will work under the supervision of the Graduate School leadership and collaborate with admissions, recruitment, and academic program staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Recruitment & Outreach Support (30%)
  • Assist with planning and promoting recruitment events (virtual and in-person)
  • Communicate with prospective students via email and CRM platforms
  • Support follow-up with prospective students to encourage application completion
  • Represent the Graduate School at select events (as appropriate)
  • Assist in maintaining recruitment calendars and contact lists

  1. Social Media & Communications (25%)
  • Manage and update graduate program social media accounts on a regular schedule
  • Assist in creating content (posts, graphics, student stories, event promotions)
  • Support updates to website content and recruitment materials
  • Help maintain communication workflows (email campaigns, inquiry responses)

Reflects responsibilities related to social media, marketing materials, and communications strategy

  1. Admissions & Application Support (20%)
  • Assist with reviewing application files for completeness
  • Monitor applicant materials and follow up on missing documents
  • Support communication with applicants regarding application status
  • Help maintain accurate admissions records and data entry

  1. Student Records & Graduation Tracking (15%)
  • Assist with tracking student progress toward degree completion
  • Support graduation application review processes
  • Help communicate graduation requirements and deadlines to students
  • Assist with commencement preparation tasks (as needed)

  1. Administrative & Operational Support (10%)
  • Assist with data entry, reporting, and record maintenance
  • Support special projects related to recruitment, marketing, or student services
  • Provide general office and customer service support to students and staff

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current graduate student in good academic standing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Preferred:

  • Experience with social media management or digital marketing
  • Experience in higher education or student services
  • Familiarity with CRM systems, Banner, or similar platforms
  • Drivers license and transportation

Preferred Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records
  • Basic understanding of academic processes or willingness to learn
  • Comfort with technology platforms (Microsoft Office, social media tools, databases)
