GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Located in Evanston, Wyoming, a small Rocky Mountain community, this area offers exceptional access to outdoor recreation. Evanston is just a 45-minute drive from the world-famous ski slopes of Park City Mountain Resort. The region provides year-round opportunities for hiking, camping, fishing, biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.

This position provides direct recreation therapy services to patients in a psychiatric hospital setting through both group and individual interventions. The Recreation Therapist conducts recreation therapy assessments to develop treatment programming tailored to the interests and needs of each person served.

As part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, this role develops and implements therapeutic interventions guided by evidence-based practices and treatment models that are meaningful and relevant to those receiving services. The position is responsible for documenting patient information, maintaining therapeutic recreation facilities, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. All services are delivered in accordance with the American Therapeutic Recreation Association Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

  • Completes Recreation Therapy Assessments to develop treatment programming relevant to the interests and needs of the person served.
  • Works as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Develops and conducts therapeutic interventions, driven by evidence-based practice and treatment models, which are meaningful and relevant to persons served.
  • Documents information relevant to persons served.
  • Maintains therapeutic facilities and troubleshoots difficulties as they arise.
  • Follows ATRA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

Qualifications -------------

PREFERENCES:

  • Preference may be given to applicants with one or more years of experience working with serious, persistent mentally ill patients.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with a Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a closely related field.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who are Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS) by NCTRC.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of group facilitation techniques and group dynamics.
  • Knowledge of Therapeutic Recreation Treatment models and Theories.
  • Assessments.
  • Treatment plan development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelors Degree (typically in Recreation Therapy)
  • Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Recreational Activities Specialist OR Education & Experience Substitution: 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Recreational Activities Specialist
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None Necessary

Special Requirements ---------------------

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Physical ability to lift, twist, bend, pull, and push up to 50 lbs.
  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
  • Pre-employment drug testing will be conducted for every successful applicant.
