Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position plans, manages, and evaluates community recreation programs and operations, including fitness and wellness, therapeutic recreation, enrichment, youth, family, senior programs, the Towns Run Series, and related special events. Responsibilities include supervising staff, administering budgets, developing programs, ensuring safe and efficient operations, supporting marketing and customer engagement, and delivering high-quality services that align with departmental goals and community needs.

  • Provides leadership and oversight of Community Recreation programs, including fitness and wellness, therapeutic recreation, enrichment, youth, family, senior programming, the Run Series, and special events. Evaluates program success using participation, financial performance, customer satisfaction, and established outcomes.
  • Manages Community Recreation program budgets by monitoring revenues and expenditures, preparing budget reports, implementing operational procedures, and addressing administrative or personnel issues as appropriate.
  • Oversees planning, operations, staffing, and evaluation of the Towns Run Series events.
  • Administers safety and risk management practices by enforcing departmental policies and emergency response plans and by developing, implementing, and evaluating safety procedures, operating practices, and training programs.
  • Oversees purchasing, inventory, maintenance, and safe operation of fitness equipment and program supplies used throughout Community Recreation programs and services.
  • Responds to participant inquiries, concerns, and feedback, resolving issues to promote a positive customer experience.
  • Coordinates marketing and promotional efforts for Community Recreation programs, Run Series events, and special events by reviewing promotional materials, website content, social media, and other communications.
  • Leads staff meetings to communicate operational updates, policies, and expectations, and provides guidance to leadership regarding Community Recreation programs, services, facilities, and operations.
  • Reviews accident and incident reports for accuracy and completeness and ensures appropriate documentation and follow-up.
  • Provides customer service support as needed, including assisting patrons and responding to inquiries.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.

Requires a bachelors degree in recreation, therapeutic recreation, fitness and wellness management, or a closely related field, supplemented by at least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in community recreation, fitness, wellness, enrichment, therapeutic recreation, or related programming, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Drivers License issued by the State of Colorado for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years of driving history.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a CPR and First Aid certification and obtain and maintain an in-house First Responder certification upon hire.

Possession of a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) is preferred.

Tools & Equipment

Requires use of general office equipment such as computers, printers, telephones, and related software. Use of specialized tools or equipment may also be necessary, including but not limited to technical devices, mechanical tools, heavy equipment, machinery, public-safety-related items, or other industry-specific systems. If required by the position, the employee may operate a personal or Town-owned vehicle.

General and Sensory Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls. Duties may also require stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs or ladders, and maintaining balance. The employee must be able to talk and hear effectively, both in person and over the phone, and must be capable of operating a vehicle if required by the role. Vision requirements include consistent near and far visual acuity, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus to allow a broad field of vision.

Moderate Physical Demands

This position involves frequent physical activity and movement. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to twenty-five (25) pounds frequently and up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally.

Environment

Physical presence onsite is required. Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled office environment but employees holding this position may work in varied indoor and outdoor locations. The noise level is typically loud but varies depending on activities or location. This position occasionally involves work in inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold, wind, or precipitation. Employees in this position may be exposed to fumes, odors, dust, or airborne particles, handle potentially hazardous materials or biological substances, and work in proximity to moving mechanical parts or machinery.

Ability to pass a pre-employment background and drug screen required.

Hiring Range: $76,712-$93,972 annually

Full Salary Range: $76,712 -$111,232 annually

You may enroll in the Town of Parker benefits if you are classified as a full-time employee and have completed the eligibility waiting period of 30 days. Coverage will begin the first of the month following 30 days of employment. The generous benefits package includes: medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, short-term disability insurance, long-term disability insurance, life and AD&D insurance, voluntary term life insurance, 401(a) retirement plan, 457 retirement plan, holiday pay, vacation, sick leave, educational assistance program, employee assistance program and a family membership to the Parker Recreation Center and/or Field House.
