Recreation Specialist – Front Desk & Senior Programs

The City of O'Fallon is seeking a detail‑oriented, customer‑focused, and highly organized Recreation Specialist to support front desk operations and lead senior programming within the Parks & Recreation Department. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, enjoys engaging with the public, and is passionate about providing meaningful recreation opportunities for all ages.

This position is responsible for planning and coordinating recreation programming-particularly for senior citizens-while overseeing the daily operations of the Renaud Center and Alligator Creek Aquatic Center front desks.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and supervise a variety of recreational programs and activities.
• Manage all senior programs, trips, special events, and participation initiatives.
• Support and align programs with senior insurance discount programs.
• Serve as Recording Secretary for the Senior Advisory Committee.
• Oversee front desk operations at the Renaud Center and Alligator Creek Aquatic Center.
• Hire, train, schedule, evaluate, discipline, and supervise part‑time staff.
• Supervise three full‑time Recreation Assistants.
• Act as Manager on Duty, providing staff support, customer engagement, tours, and problem resolution.
• Research, collect data, and prepare reports related to programming and operations.
• Enter, maintain, and manage program data using RecTrac and other tools.
• Coordinate with city departments including Parks and Volunteer Services.
• Serve as liaison to community organizations, schools, and outside service providers.
• Manage program budgets, including revenue forecasting, cost recovery, and purchasing.
• Develop bids for program‑related items and assist with capital equipment bids.
• Respond to and resolve customer concerns and program‑specific issues.
• Create and distribute program manuals, rules, announcements, and promotional materials.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

• Understanding of recreation program planning, development, and coordination.
• Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of marketing principles, public relations, and report preparation.
• Ability to supervise staff and manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
• Familiarity with RecTrac or similar recreation management software is preferred.
• Proficiency with standard office equipment and technology.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in recreation programming, customer service, or facility operations preferred.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Valid Missouri driver's license or ability to obtain one.
