Recreation Services Representative
The Paso Robles Community Services Department is seeking a service-oriented part-time Recreation Services Representative to join our team. In this role, you will support the day-to-day operations of our recreation facilities and programs while providingexcellent customer service to participants and visitors. From supporting activities and assisting patrons to helping maintain safe, organized, and welcoming spaces, you will play an important role in creating positive experiences for community members of all ages. Afternoon and evening availability is required with occasional Saturday shifts to support events as needed. This part-time position is generally scheduled for 16 to 18 hours per week.
The following duties are typical of this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the duties set forth below and/or may be required to perform additional related duties to address City needs and evolving business practices.
- Opens, closes, and secures recreation facilities in accordance with scheduled programs, rentals, and user group needs.
- Monitors facility use, afterschool programs, and Teen Center activities to ensure participant safety, appropriate behavior, and compliance with established rules and policies; addresses minor issues or conflicts as they arise.
- Provides customer service by greeting visitors, responding to inquiries, and providing accurate information regarding programs, services, and facility use.
- Supports recreation programs and activities by assisting with implementation and providing basic supervision of participants.
- Performs program and event support duties, including setup and breakdown of rooms, equipment, and activity spaces; ensures equipment is used and stored properly.
- Processes program registrations, facility reservations, and related transactions using designated software systems.
- Maintains facility cleanliness, organization, and safety; conducts routine checks and reports maintenance or safety concerns.
- Supports community events (e.g., concerts and seasonal programs), including setup, cleanup, crowd monitoring, and coordination of supplies and equipment.
- Provides support for youth-focused programs, including Teen Center operations, game and activity areas, and structured and unstructured recreation.
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of customer service and effective public interaction.
- Basic recreation program support and facility operations.
- Safe work practices, including facility safety procedures and emergency response awareness.
- Techniques for monitoring participant behavior and ensuring compliance with established rules and guidelines.
- Basic custodial methods and standards for maintaining clean, safe public facilities.
- Modern office practices, including use of computers and standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Basic recordkeeping and data entry practices.
- Applicable policies, procedures, and regulations related to assigned programs and facility operations.
Ability to:
- Provide courteous, professional, and responsive customer service in a variety of settings.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Exercise sound judgment and take appropriate action within established guidelines.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to safety concerns, incidents, or unusual situations.

- Support recreation programs and events, including setup, cleanup, and participant supervision.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized facility environment.
- Maintain accurate records and perform basic data entry and tracking tasks.
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Graduation from high school or possession of a General Educational Development (GED) certificate; and
- One year of experience in recreation programs, community services, customer service, youth programs, event support, or a related field.
Bilingual and biliterate proficiency in Spanish is desirable.
