The YMCA of Greater Erieis looking to hire aRecreation Program Coordinator for our Summer Parks program. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

This position pays up to $12.61 - $18.91/hour contingent on experience.


A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A RECREATION PROGRAM SITE COORDINATOR

As the Recreation Program Coordinator for our partnership with the City of Erie's Summer Parks program is responsible for the daily supervision of the participants, ages 6-18, in the YMCA of Greater Erie Summer Parks programming in conjunction with the City of Erie. The employee is responsible for assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of all program components, program activities and events in the Summer Parks program. The employee guides the academic and social development of participants; ensuring a safe, enriching and healthy environment.

You are friendly and patient as you serve as a role model and demonstrate professional behavior. With enthusiasm, you help deliver program curriculum and behavioral structure in helping with the needs of the participants. You are also conscientious about keeping records up to date and accurate and ensuring compliance with YMCA standards and government regulations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan, develop, supervise, implement and direct designated recreation program in accordance with the quality guidelines.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules staff in accordance to quality guidelines and adjust for absentees. Directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Ensure the safety and engagement of participants by providing careful, attentive supervision, alert at all times.
  • Follows program curriculum and behavioral structure in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants.
  • Serves as a positive role model, demonstrates professional behavior and understands positive youth development approaches to the academic, mental and social development of youth.
  • Facilitates a program environment that invites participation, socialization, positive behavior and positive attitude.
  • Manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program
  • Assist in the completion of attendance reports, meal counts and volunteer logs. Responsible for all daily record keeping and adherence to all quality standard requirements.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Maintenance of all staff and participant records for compliance.
  • Assisting with orientation of new participants and parents to the recreation program.
  • Facilitate strong communication between the recreational staff and families.
  • Assist in daily maintenance of assigned parks, notifying proper personnel of safety concerns.
  • Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Control and monitoring of supplies and equipment.
  • Assumes other duties as requested by Executive Director or Designee

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A RECREATION PROGRAM SITE COORDINATOR

  • Bachelor's degree in the approved curriculum from an accredited college or university
  • Excellent public relation skills in working with the community, parents, staff and children.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
  • Act 33, Act 34 and FBI clearances.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must complete all Standard Recreation program training and safety Requirements as assigned.

  • The employee is frequently required to sit, reach, crouch, kneel, stoop, crawl, walk, stand and spend time on the floor.
  • The employee may come in contact with students that are ill and/or contagious.
  • The noise level ranges from quiet to loud.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit, stoop and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
  • The employee must lift a minimum of 20 pounds and occasionally lift 50 pounds.

SEASONAL WORK SCHEDULE

This position is a seasonal role to begin on June1, 2026. The schedule is Monday - Friday 9:00am-5:00pm.
