St. James Parish is hiring a Recreational Coordinator under the Operations Department. 

JOB FUNCTION:  Responsible for the administrative and operational activities of the St. James Parish Government Recreational Programs.  This position is classified as essential during declared emergencies or natural disasters.  This is a non-exempt position and may require working weekends.  This position is “Safety Sensitive” and subject to random drug testing as per the St. James Parish Government Employee Handbook.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Includes any combination of the following illustrative examples of duties and responsibilities including but not limited to:

 ·       Assists in planning and scheduling recreational activities and programs

·       Assists in requisition of supplies and equipment needed for recreation programs

·       Communicates with recreation coordinator to ensure a smooth operating program for recreation participants and residents

·       Assists in work planning, goal setting and performance evaluations for recreational programs

·       Maintains documentation on all recreational activities

·       Assist in scheduling the use of recreational facilities for recreation, classes and competition

·       Maintains equipment by washing and cleaning

·       Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Supervises part time and student personnel assisting in specific work related tasks.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.    

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  High School diploma or general education diploma (GED) and 2 or more year’s related experience in organized recreational program as a worker, teacher, instructor, counselor, or closely related position.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add, subtract and divide in all units of measurement; using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to define common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:  “Must” possess a valid Louisiana Drivers License with a class “E” designation and have an acceptable driving record.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 ·       Knowledge of the rules and regulations pertaining to specific recreational activities

·       General knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety rules and regulations in equipment operation

·       Working knowledge of the hazards and applicable Louisiana traffic safety rules and regulations for transporting light equipment by truck and trailer

·       Ability to clean and perform minor maintenance and repair of equipment operated

·       Ability to perform physical labor as required of the position

·       Have excellent public relations skills

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, extreme heat/cold, near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to vibration.  The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
