RECREATION COORDINATOR
PART-TIME
STARTING HOURLY RATE: $20 PER HOUR
 
Position Overview:The City of Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation and Events Department is looking for a Part-Time Recreation Coordinator, with a focus on programming and aquatics. The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the planning, organizing and implementation of recreational activities during the school year and overseeing day-to-day operations at the Doris E. Buffett Pool during the summer season. This position will operate under the supervision of the Division Manager of Recreation. This position will require varied work hours and days depending on the program season and offerings.

Job Details:
  • Position: Recreation Coordinator – Programming & Aquatics
  • Hours: 15-40 hours per week (40 hours during the summer months, hours dependent on programming in off season. Total hours not to exceed 1560)
  • Duration: year-round
  • Work Environment: Inside, outside, and in varying weather conditions

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Creation, Implementation, & Support
  • Daily pool operations and programming from May 1 - the start of the academic year.
    • Program creation and implementation.
    • Opening and closing duties, supply and merchandise inventory, general custodial duties, record management.
    • Staff Management and training.
  • Promote programming.
  • Work with instructors to ensure a high-quality experience for participants.
  • Develop and establish partnerships for programs.
  • Communicate and coordinate with community partners.
  • Hire, support, train and supervise program staff.
  • Evaluate programs, including conducting participant surveys, to identify areas for improvements and areas of success.
  • Develop staff training materials for programs.
  • Understands and utilizes recreational management software for promotion and scheduling of programs.
  • Records and tracks expenses related to programming and assists in the development of the annual budget for PRE.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Facility Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Considerable (3 - 5 years) experience in professional-level, year-round recreation work, including programming and coordinating recreational activities, or experience in parks, recreation, or special event management and operations, or sports facility management and operations.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification (can be obtained up to 6 months after hiring)
  • Aquatics Facility Operator or similar Certification (can be obtained up to 6 months after hiring)
  • A valid driver’s license for Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Criminal background and driving record checks required.
