A vacancy exists in the Department of Recreation and Parks for a Recreation Community Supervisor I in the Therapeutic Program.

Pay Schedule VI, Grade 26, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week

Definition of Responsibility

Assists the Human Services Program Supervisor and the Regional Coordinator in planning, organizing, and supervising therapeutic recreation and parks programs, and the operation and maintenance of community recreation facilities.

Job Purpose

Under general supervision, helps in managing therapeutic programs and operations of a recreation center or related facility.

Essential Job Duties

  • Develop and implement comprehensive therapeutic recreational programs that meet the needs and interests of constituents across the County.

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate a variety of therapeutic recreational activities, including sports leagues, fitness programs, arts and crafts, and special events.

  • Collaborate with community organizations and partners to enhance program offerings and promote participation.

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate program coordinators and staff members.

  • Develop and manage program budgets to ensure resources are allocated efficiently.

  • Maintain and update program policies and procedures to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.

  • Conduct regular evaluations and assessments of program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Provide excellent customer service to program participants, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, creativity, and personal growth.

  • Stay up to date with trends and best practices in recreation and parks management.

  • Enter and monitor programs and data into the registration software: CivicRec.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors degree in recreation and parks, physical education, business or public administration, behavioral or health sciences, education, or a closely related field.

(Experience as described in Examples of Essential Duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Recreation and Parks Administration, Sports Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in therapeutic program development and management, preferably in a recreational setting.

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Knowledge of therapeutic programming principles, techniques, and trends.

  • Familiarity with budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse groups of individuals.

  • Proficiency in computer applications related to program management and reporting.

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level)

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and theory of therapeutic programming, recreational, and leisure activities.
  • Ability to manage a recreation center, park, or related facility.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

Physical and Environmental Conditions

The work of this classification entails some physical labor, including walking over rough, uneven surfaces during facility and ground inspections, and lifting and carrying items.

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
