Kind of Work Under general direction, the purpose of this position is to provide supervision and direction over all activities and maintenance staff at a recreation center during assigned shift and acts as back up to the Center Supervisor. Provide work schedules for assigned subordinates to insure performance of routine custodial, field/lawn, and maintenance duties. Responsible for proper janitorial and grounds maintenance of a Parish recreational facility. May assist in the preparation of the grounds for various athletic events, or activities. Employee is responsible for the safe storage of all supplies, tools and equipment; keep accurate records of stock; and requisitions supplies. Employee may work a varied schedule that may include nights, weekends and holidays. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. The current position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid drivers license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference. Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination Meets ONE (1) of the following: I. Possession of a high school diploma/equivalent; plus, at least six (6) months of paid experience performing manual facilities cleaning and maintenance work at a facility comparable in size to a public Park, Playground, or Recreation Center. OR II. At least one (1) year of paid experience in a supervisory position responsible for the direct oversight of personnel and at least six (6) months of paid experience performing manual facilities cleaning and maintenance work at a facility comparable in size to a public Park, Playground, or Recreation Center. OR III. Current employment with Jefferson Parish; plus, permanent civil service status and at least two (2) years of experience in the class of Groundskeeper. NOTE: Any conviction listed in the Louisiana Child Protection Act (Louisiana R.S. 15:587.1) is considered disqualifying, unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application.
