FLSA Position Class: Part-time, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Varies. Rec Center Hours: Monday-Thursday 5:30am-9pm, Friday 5:30am-7pm, Saturday 7am-4pm, Sunday 1pm-5pm

Summary

This position is responsible for performing general duties related to the programs and activities at the Statesville Recreation Center.

  • Collects program registration fees, answers phone calls, and prepares records and activity reports.
  • Assists in the set-up/breakdown and execution of other recreation programs and special events.
  • Promotes and sells center memberships.
  • Provides orientation for members; instructs members on proper use of fitness equipment.
  • Prepares activity calendars, bulletin boards, lesson plans, and helps promote recreation activities.
  • Enforces departmental policies governing public safety and quality services.
  • Ensure proper safety precautions are observed in assigned activities and free play.
  • Maintains and cleans fitness equipment.
  • Supervises facility rentals and special community events.
  • Leads groups of children in age-appropriate play in the childcare facility.
  • Leads daily activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, special events, and field trips.
  • Documents and files accident reports; files program documentation and other information.
  • Assists in facilitating recreational classes.
  • Assists in organizing and promoting recreational activities, classes, camps, and sports leagues.
  • Develops participant interest and enthusiasm.
  • Encourages individual participation and good sportsmanship.
  • Monitors recreation center and enforces rules and regulations.
  • Assists in maintaining facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Attends staff meetings and required training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED or currently enrolled.

Requirements

  • Possession of First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and Automated External Defibrillator certifications or ability to obtain within six (6) months.

  • General knowledge of the principles, rules, materials, and equipment requirements of a variety of athletic leagues.
  • General knowledge of the philosophy, objectives, psychology, sociology, and personal health and hygiene of public recreation.
  • Working knowledge of first aid practices and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in facility maintenance.
  • Ability to lead and instruct groups in games, sports, and other recreation activities.
  • Ability to resolve disputes with firmness and impartiality.
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public.
  • Ability to administer first aid correctly and effectively.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, supervisors, volunteers, community groups, and the public.

Job Related Physical Requirements

This position involves medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity related to this position may require the use of fingers and hands, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and to convey detailed or important instructions to others; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

Working Conditions

The employee is subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold, dust, noise, vibrations, dust, and hazards related to sports activities. Employee may be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Employee may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
