Recovery Specialist

Program/Location: Women's Addiction Treatment Center - CSS Unit / New Bedford, MA
Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
Pay range: $20-26/hr
Status: Full time, Overnights 11pm-7:30am
Shift: Tuesday-Saturday. Fridays & Saturdays are required.

Recovery Specialist Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compliance with Federal Regulations regarding 42 CFR Part 2; Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder and HIPAA Regulations
  • Reviews and adheres to posted shift assignment at the start of shift
  • Observation and accounting of all patients at all times to ensure safety, entering findings of patient status into the EHR at a minimum of hourly
  • Monitor the milieu including bathrooms and group room for safe, clean and therapeutic environment at hourly and/or as needed
  • Understanding of emergency procedures and codes and remain calm in a crisis
  • Maintain therapeutic boundaries by setting limits and enforcing rules in a respectful manner
  • Perform room inspections per policy and bag searches when directed
  • Ensure the unit is neat and clean, performing end of shift duties to maintain a therapeutic environment for patients and staff, and restock supplies as needed.
  • Attends Supervision with assigned supervisor twice monthly and/or as needed based on status or concerns and attend mandatory meetings
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Recovery Specialist Supervisor, Nursing Staff, Nurse Manager, Program/Site Director, DON, COO.

Inpatient Services Specific Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Substance Use Disorder Training (including Nicotine Addiction)
  • Perform under the delegation authority of the RN / LPN working on the shift assigned
  • Complete admission consents and releases within the EHR;
  • Complete patient observation checks monitoring per practitioner/nurse order timely and accurately on the IPAD (paper when IPAD unavailable);
  • Print daily census in preparation for next shift
  • Attends and participates in change of shift report with nursing staff at the beginning and end of each shift 
  • Observation and reporting to the nurse signs of withdrawal and/or medical and behavioral changes
  • Monitor supplies necessary for showering and personal care to maintain individual hygiene/safety
  • Utilize Walkie-Talkies as campus responders and perform radio checks hourly and when escorting patient off the unit
  • Process new patient admission including the EHR process, an inventory and documentation of clothing, electronic and valuables
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the rights of patients as defined by DPH Patient Rights Standards (105 CMR 164.079)-BSAS licensed programs
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the rights of the patients as defined by DMH Patient Rights Standards (104 CMR 28.11)- DMH licensed programs;
  • Monitor milieu as directed by the nurse during Medication Administration (ATS/ACCS)
  • Complete medication Monitoring Training (within 90 days of hire or as appropriate) and perform Medication Monitoring during Observed Self-Administration (on CSS/TSS units) after successful completion of training;
  • Escorting patients to meal, groups, medical appointments within the facility and outdoor break
  • Reports off to nurse when leaving the unit for any reason
  • Facilitate assigned groups and enter notes into HER
  • Transportation of residents, if applicable (policy and documentation must be complete);
  • Maintain current active CPI training with the ability to engage in an emergency physical hold as directed by the nurse/leadership (ACCS only);
  • Engage in verbal de-escalation and patient centered behavioral interventions in treatment;
  • Facilitation of activity-based group activities and milieu engagement per daily scheduled as assigned.

Lead Recovery Specialist Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent GED, preferred.
  • One year of experience in substance use / behavioral health field is preferred but not required.
