Job Description

The City of Chesapeake Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Real Time Crime & Information Center Analyst. This position plays a critical role in supporting public safety operations by processing, monitoring, and analyzing digital data streams to provide actionable, real-time intelligence to police and fire personnel. Responsibilities include monitoring video surveillance systems, coordinating and dispatching assistance as needed, and supporting public safety communications in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and operate an integrated public safety technology system, including live camera feeds, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), police radio communications, license plate readers, and drone operations.
  • Support law enforcement operations by identifying incidents requiring police response and monitoring active calls for service.
  • Observe and assess in-progress incidents, including criminal activity, crowd management situations, traffic accidents, and traffic congestion.
  • Provide real-time intelligence and situational updates to officers in the field.
  • Coordinate and direct additional resources as needed to support evolving incidents and emergency response efforts.
  • Review archived video footage and digital evidence to assist criminal and administrative investigations.
  • Gather, analyze, and document information for reports, case support, and operational purposes.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and activity logs in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Prepare for and provide court testimony related to evidence, observations, and operational activities when required.
  • Operate drones in support of public safety and law enforcement missions, including serving as a Drone First Responder.
  • Obtain and maintain a Part 107 Remote Pilot License within one year of hire.

Required Qualifications

Vocational/Educational Requirement:Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in crime analysis, criminal justice, sociology, information technology, public administration or a closely related field.

Experience:None. One year of related, full-time equivalent experience as a Crime Analysis Specialist or closely related position is preferred.

Special Certifications and Licenses: A CCIA (Certified Crime and Intelligence Analyst) certification through the Alpha Group/Department of Justice (California) or the CLEA (Certified Law Enforcement Analyst) certification through the International Association of Crime Analysts is preferred but will need to be obtained within two years of hire. Other equivalent certifications may be considered.

Special Requirements:Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term departmental needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to have effective communication orally and in writing.
  • Ability to evaluate crime trends, keep up with information, perform security assessment, and identify community concerns.
  • Knowledge of word processing and linking software.
  • Knowledge of police procedures, criminal activity, public safety technology systems, and the geographic layout of the City of Chesapeake is preferred. The candidate should also be able to build effective working relationships and adapt to changing operational needs.
  • Knowledge of criminal theory and practice, police department organization structures, and reporting systems protocols.
  • Experience supporting law enforcement or public safety operations
