Birchwood School District is seeking a dynamic, innovative, student-focused Reading Specialist to join our outstanding instructional team. The candidate will work with small groups of K-8 students throughout the day. The person must be knowledgeable regarding current practice and must be able to lead teachers in modeling best instructional practices. This is a full-time position. The successful candidate will demonstrate deep curriculum knowledge, a commitment to building relationships with students and fellow staff, and the ability to lead students toward great learning. Candidates that are working toward their Reading Specialist license are also invited to apply for this position.

Our school slogan, "Individually Unique-Together Complete" summarizes the makeup of our district as students have the opportunity to choose from a number of learning environments. Our students can choose from a traditional classroom setting in our Birchwood Elementary (PK-5), Middle (6-8), or High School (9-12); our Montessori setting at Birchwood Public Montessori (PK-6); our innovative learning setting at the Birchwood STEAM and Career Academy (6-12) or in the virtual setting at the Bobcat Virtual Academy (pK-12).

Birchwood, the bluegill capital of Wisconsin, is located among the lakes and woods of northwest Wisconsin. Birchwood is the preferred area if you want to avoid crowds and escape to the serenity of a quaint village. Whether you want to fish, swim, boat, or waterski, many lakes in the Birchwood area have it all. Birchwood Schools are known for their education innovations and strong community support. Over 30% of Birchwood's students attend through open enrollment, with most choosing to attend based upon the wide array of educational options, the District's high academic & behavioral standards, and the availability of technology. Our students and staff are supported by the very successful Educational Foundation of Birchwood which has donated over $1,600,000 over the past 20+ years to fund staff and student proposals that provide additional educational opportunities that rival much larger districts.

Birchwood is a leader in the use of technology, youth options, and competitive grants. The Birchwood District has focused its efforts and energies to have the following occur:

  • Birchwood students will be confident in their knowledge and ability and will be performing among the best in the nation.
  • Birchwood teachers will be welcomed and appreciated by the school and community. They will work collaboratively with each other to increase pride within the District.
  • Birchwood School will create new and innovative revenue sources that support and expand intergenerational learning opportunities.
  • Birchwood School will be a center for community knowledge, application, and use of technology for all.
  • Birchwood School and our students'' success will be the focus of our community.

We hope you consider joining our staff in serving our amazing Birchwood students. Please contact Matt Bunton at 715-354-3471 or mbunton@birchwood.k12.wi.us with any questions about this position.
