Overview:
System One is seeking a Radioactive Material Transport Engineer to support advanced nuclear energy initiatives. This role will focus on nuclear packaging, transportation logistics, and regulatory compliance for radioactive materials across the fuel lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will work cross-functionally with procurement, fabrication, QA, and operations teams to support safe and compliant transport solutions for next-generation nuclear programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Support development of nuclear packaging and transportation programs
  • Evaluate packaging needs to support reactor and fuel cycle operations
  • Interface with procurement, suppliers, and engineering teams through design, testing, licensing, and fabrication of shipping containers
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., 10 CFR 71, 49 CFR)
  • Assist in development of transportation strategies and risk management plans
  • Support procedures related to safe transport of radioactive materials (Class 7)
  • Participate in design reviews, testing, and documentation development
  • Act as a technical point of contact for nuclear material transport activities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 2–10 years of engineering experience
  • Familiarity with nuclear industry environments (utility, national lab, Navy nuclear, fuel fabrication, or similar)
  • Ability to read and interpret government regulations related to radioactive material transport
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with hazardous material transport (especially Class 7 radioactive materials)
  • Familiarity with nuclear fuel fabrication or shipping container design
  • Experience with transportation of radioactive materials and logistics programs
  • Ability to evaluate engineering drawings and models

Additional Details:

  • Travel: 0–5%
  • Work Environment: Remote, standard office setting
  • Physical Requirements: Minimal (lifting up to 25 lbs as needed)
