Radar Instructor/Trainer

Job Description:

This role focuses on delivering high-quality training and subject matter expertise in surface and air surveillance and Command and Control (C2) operations for military customers, with an emphasis on radar systems and recognized air and maritime picture development. The trainer supports training, analysis, and operational integration efforts by leveraging deep, hands-on operational experience to build and maintain a unified operational picture using multiple sensors, communications paths, and tactical data links.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver classroom and practical instruction on surface and air surveillance operations, including the development and maintenance of a recognized air and surface picture.
• Train military personnel on the use of multiple sensors, radar systems, voice and data communications, and tactical data links to build and sustain a common operational picture.
• Explain and demonstrate techniques for detection, identification, tracking, and management of air and surface objects in both maritime and airspace domains.
• Instruct students on surveillance operations in various environments, including harbor, port, inland waterways, and open-sea or blue-water settings.
• Integrate surface and air sensors, voice and data communications, and multi-domain inputs into a unified operational picture during training scenarios.
• Translate real-world operational experience into clear, structured training modules, exercises, and course materials that support mission-focused learning objectives.
• Support training development efforts by contributing operational insights to simulations, scenarios, and courseware design.
• Provide feedback and operational analysis to improve training effectiveness and alignment with current tactics, techniques, and procedures.
• Mentor trainees on best practices in situational awareness, C2 processes, and surveillance operations across air and maritime domains.
• Collaborate with other instructors and technical staff to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality training aligned with customer requirements.

Essential Skills:

• Prior military service in the Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, or NATO.
• Direct experience in surface and/or air surveillance operations.
• Experience identifying, tracking, and managing air and surface objects.
• Experience contributing to or maintaining a common operational picture.
• Demonstrated operational proficiency in surveillance and C2 operations, regardless of rank or title.
• Familiarity with Automatic Independent Surveillance and marine radar products.
• Knowledge of maritime safety practices related to surveillance and radar operations.
• Familiarity with ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast).
• Experience with radio direction finding.
• Exposure to Electronic Support Measures (ESM) and Electronic Intelligence (ELINT).
• Strong situational awareness across air and maritime domains.
• Deep practical understanding of surveillance and C2 operations.
• Ability to clearly communicate complex operational concepts in a training environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Instructor experience at a recognized military schoolhouse or training center.
• Background as a Navy Operations Specialist (OS), Coast Guard surveillance operator, Air Force C2 or air surveillance operator, Marine Corps Tactical Operations, or an equivalent role.
• Active Clearance.
• Joint or multi-domain operational experience spanning air, maritime, and other domains.
• Experience supporting training development, simulation, or operational analysis.
• Ability to translate real-world operational experience into effective training or program support.
• Service-agnostic, mission-focused mindset and the ability to work effectively with diverse military audiences.
• Technical training or experience as a technical trainer in Command and Control (C2) and operations.

Work Environment:

• The position is fully on-site in a training and classroom setting in Elkridge, Maryland (Howard County).
• The role primarily supports structured training events for military customers, with a strong focus on radar systems and Command and Control operations over an extended multi-year period.
• The environment involves working with classroom training tools, simulations, and operationally relevant technologies used in surface and air surveillance and C2.
• The schedule follows a 9/80 work pattern, providing a compressed workweek structure.
• The setting emphasizes professionalism, collaboration, and close interaction with military trainees and other instructors in a formal training facility.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Elkridge, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
