Location: Mountain View, CA
Experience: 7+ Years
ONSITE ROLE

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with strong expertise in PCBA manufacturing, electromechanical assembly, and New Product Introduction (NPI) to support advanced hardware manufacturing initiatives at Synopsys. The ideal candidate will drive manufacturing process development, industrialization, yield improvement, and supplier/EMS collaboration for high-complexity electronic systems.

This role requires deep technical knowledge in PCBA assembly processes, FATP (Final Assembly, Test & Packout), manufacturing automation, and cross-functional collaboration with R&D, Quality, Test Engineering, and global EMS partners.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process Leadership

  • Lead manufacturing engineering activities for PCBA and electromechanical assembly across NPI and sustaining programs.
  • Define and industrialize end-to-end manufacturing processes for complex electronic products.
  • Drive DFx reviews including DFM, DFA, DFT, DFS, and DFR with R&D and EMS partners.
  • Develop PFMEAs, process flows, control plans, work instructions, and manufacturing standards.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency, workflow, cell layout, tooling, staffing, and automation strategies.

PCBA Manufacturing

  • Develop manufacturing processes for complex PCBAs including:
    • High-layer-count boards
    • Fine-pitch BGAs
    • High-speed signal designs
    • Power electronics
  • Optimize SMT/THT assembly processes, solder profiles, stencil design, and reliability studies.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing defects and reliability issues using root cause analysis methodologies.

Electromechanical Assembly & FATP

  • Lead Final Assembly Test and Packout (FATP) process development and optimization.
  • Support automation initiatives to improve assembly efficiency, ergonomics, quality, and cost.
  • Train EMS engineering teams on product/process requirements and validate operator certification programs.

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Support prototype builds, production ramps, readiness reviews, and risk mitigation activities.
  • Drive manufacturing readiness from prototype through mass production.
  • Coordinate DFx issue resolution across internal and external stakeholders.

Supplier & EMS Management

  • Serve as the primary technical manufacturing interface with EMS partners.
  • Drive yield improvement, reliability enhancement, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Manage EMS deliverables aligned with product schedules and manufacturing objectives.

Sustaining Engineering

  • Own BOM transition from prototype to production.
  • Support ECO implementation and manufacturing change validation.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing process documentation and packaging requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of manufacturing engineering experience with strong PCBA and electromechanical assembly expertise.
  • Experience leading complex NPI programs from development through high-volume manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • SMT/THT assembly processes
    • Manufacturing automation
    • Quality and reliability engineering
    • Yield improvement and cost optimization
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience at PCBA and system levels.
  • Experience working with global EMS/Contract Manufacturing partners.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with highly dense and complex PCBAs.
  • Exposure to networking hardware, telecom, semiconductor, or test instrumentation products.
  • Knowledge of IPC, ISO, and industry quality standards.
  • Experience with automation fixtures and precision assembly tooling.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools and optoelectronics/optical cabling.
