CSS, Inc. is looking for a qualified candidate to provide quantitative ecology support to the Marine Mammal & Turtle Division (MMTD) of the Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC). This individual will support data management and analysis for the MMTD, including the application of statistical models and/or the development of simulations to address complex scientific problems. The candidate will also design projects, including the collection and management of data and documented workflows in accessible software tools.
Responsibilities
Data & Policy Analytics
Develop analytical approaches to address complex questions in marine mammal spatial and/or behavioral ecology related to MMTD priorities and legislative mandates, like the MMPA and ESA, as well as administrative priorities and policies, including assessments of the impact of stressors on marine mammal populations. This includes:
Evaluation of animal movement and habitat ecology
Development of spatially explicit statistical models representing animal abundance
Development and implementation of models of marine mammal population dynamics
Development of quantitative risk assessment approaches evaluating the effects of natural and man-made stressors on marine mammal populations
Identify key data gaps and develop/propose approaches to improve or modify data collection efforts to address these gaps.
