Job Title: Quality Technician

Job Description

The Quality Technician performs quality audits of facility processes, supports work order management, and assists with microbiological preparation, testing, and release of samples in a food manufacturing environment. This role helps ensure that all products meet strict quality and safety standards before shipment by following GMP/GLP guidelines and maintaining accurate quality documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality audits of facility processes to ensure compliance with established quality standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Support work order management by reviewing, updating, and maintaining quality-related documentation associated with production activities.
  • Assist with microbiological preparation, testing, and release of samples to verify that products meet safety and quality specifications.
  • Conduct routine support tasks such as sampling, in-process checks, and documentation as assigned by the Quality Assurance (QA) Supervisor.
  • Follow GMP and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) guidelines in all testing, documentation, and laboratory activities.
  • Perform quality control (QC) testing, including sample preparation and media preparation, to support food chemistry and microbiology testing.
  • Review and manage quality documents to ensure that all food products receive proper final sign-off before leaving the facility.
  • Collaborate with the QA team and production staff to address quality issues and support continuous improvement of quality processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of all tests, results, and quality checks in accordance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Handle and prepare food samples for food analysis testing and biologics-related testing as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 1-2 years of experience working in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Associate's degree with 0-1 years of experience, or a high school diploma with manufacturing or food manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with food chemistry and food science concepts in a quality or laboratory setting.
  • Hands-on experience in quality assurance, including QC testing and QA testing in a food or related environment.
  • Ability to perform sample preparation and media preparation for microbiology and food analysis testing.
  • Knowledge of microbiology testing methods and food analysis testing procedures.
  • Familiarity with biologics-related testing in a food or laboratory context.
  • Ability to follow GMP and GLP guidelines consistently in all work activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and quality records.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a quality team and follow direction from a QA Supervisor.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Education in food science, food technology, microbiology, chemistry, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment within food manufacturing is a plus.
  • Comfort working with both testing activities and quality documentation for finished goods.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple samples, tests, and documentation simultaneously.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate with production and QA team members.

Work Environment

This position is fully onsite in a food manufacturing facility and laboratory setting. The Quality Technician works as part of a team of approximately 10 individuals and reports to the QA Supervisor. The role is on first shift, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional weekend work required based on sample volume and production needs. The environment involves working in a lab and production areas where food products are tested and evaluated before shipment, using standard laboratory equipment and following GMP/GLP practices.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ayer, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
