Overview:
The Stryten factory in Salina, Kansas is one of the largest lead-acid battery manufacturing sites in North America with 800 employees capable of producing more than 35,000 quality batteries per day. These batteries can be found in your car, in your boat or RV, or, in your lawn and garden equipment. Stryten proudly supports the local community by regularly participating in Project Salina, the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, and providing more than 100 volunteers for the Smoky Hill River Festival.

Individual will provide leadership in the day-to-day activities for all production employees within the facility and partner with the production supervisors and maintenance to solve problems and improve quality.  Manage customer complaint actions, returns, calibration of all gauges, maintain the test lab for 5S and test records, and both LPAs and Internal Audits.  This individual will oversee the quality system within the plant and have a thorough working knowledge of ISO9001/14001 Quality System Requirements and the Quality Operating System of manufacturing and distribution.

Responsibilities:

 

RESPONSIBILITIES / AUTHORITIES:

  • Provide day to day quality direction and support to manufacturing and quality assurance in the form of plans, procedures, and guidance.
  • Be available to work flexible shifts to ensure support for all shifts as needed.
  • Maintain a monthly summary of Plant KPIs per the plant data summary sheets.
  • Maintain the QSD for data collection
  • Responsible for ECO, Deviation, and EWR routing within the plant to communicate with HQ.
  • Monitor operator and quality control plan compliance daily
  • Participate in IATF internal audits and support closure of corrective actions.
  • Be the point of contact for Quality Systems processes and customer audits

  • Responsible for Hold Tag management – reporting of status and monitoring that product is dispositioned within the guidelines of Stryten procedures.
  • Manage the supplied part and internal part periodic sampling plan. Maintain records for proof of analysis and disposition.
  • Verify and manage Operator performance to control plan sampling, testing techniques, and communicate with production on their performance.
  • Work with the team on problem solving initiatives and link actions and outcomes to Control Plans, PFMEA’s, plant inspection points, and Customer returns.
  • Manage and communicate any changes or replacement of work instructions.
  • Manage and schedule all periodic sampling of both supplied components and manufactured parts for analysis (AB001-Ca, Fa, Fb).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work within established policies, procedures, practices, and regulations.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coaching and developing employees for future opportunity and to assure accountability and adherence to established policies and procedures.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education, Experience, Skills Required:
  • Prefer a 2-year degree in business, science, engineering, or quality, or 
  • 5-8 years related experience as a quality assurance technician / auditor in a manufacturing plant level, preferably a tier I supplier to the automotive industry.
  • Six Sigma training (Green Belt or Black Belt) desired but not required.

 

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE:

  • Develops good relationships with coworkers.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Proficient in problem solving – root cause analysis, 5 why, etc.
  • Must be quality and customer oriented
  • Familiar / knowledgeable in ISO 9001/14001 quality standards; APQP methodology; Control Plans, FMEAs, and PPAPs
  • Knowledgeable in Lean tools
  • Familiarity with Quality Operating Systems
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team-oriented environment on multiple projects
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills -Windows-based programs

TRAVEL, ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel Expectations: 5%
