This company located in Camarillo, CA has been in the automotive industry since 1967. With 60 employees across 3 buildings and about 35 CNC machines, the company is dedicated to making quality parts for one of the biggest names in the automotive industry.
We are seeking a hands-on Quality Supervisor to lead our quality team while working closely with machinists and production personnel to ensure products meet customer and industry quality standards. This is a working supervisor role that combines shop floor support, employee coaching, and quality documentation. The ideal candidate enjoys mentoring others, solving problems, and helping build a strong quality culture.
This position reports directly to the Director of Manufacturing and supports both first and second shift operations. The typical schedule begins at 7:00 AM, with occasional overtime as business needs require.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the day-to-day activities of the Quality department, currently overseeing a team of two Quality Inspectors, with future growth up to four team members.
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior quality personnel by sharing technical knowledge and best inspection practices.
- Spend approximately:
- 20% of time performing hands-on inspections and verifying parts
- 50% of time coaching, mentoring, and supporting employees
- 30% of time completing quality documentation, reporting, and administrative tasks
- Perform dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and surface plate inspection methods.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine inspection requirements and select the appropriate inspection tools.
- Apply strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) during inspections and while assisting production teams.
- Serve as a technical resource for machinists by helping identify quality issues and providing guidance to produce conforming parts.
- Support quality activities across multiple manufacturing buildings, working closely with inspectors and shop floor personnel.
- Write and process Nonconformance Material Reports (NMRs) and assist with corrective action activities.
- Assist in developing and maintaining quality procedures that support ISO and AS9100 certification efforts.
- Participate in hiring discussions, employee performance reviews, and team development activities.
- Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on continuous improvement and product quality.
Qualifications:
Required- 3–5 years of quality inspection, quality supervision, machining, or manufacturing experience; candidates with 10+ years of machining experience and strong inspection expertise are also encouraged to apply.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and technical drawings.
- Extensive knowledge of GD&T.
- Experience using common precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and surface plate inspection equipment.
- Ability to determine the proper inspection methods and measuring tools for various part features.
- Working knowledge of quality management systems and standards, particularly ISO 9001 and AS9100.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively coach and mentor employees.
- Ability to work collaboratively with machinists, supervisors, and cross-functional teams.
Preferred- Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).
- Previous experience leading or supervising quality personnel in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting aerospace or precision manufacturing operations.
