Quality Manager

Purpose:
Ensures the administration of the company’s quality and business improvement systems. Directly manages technical personnel including inspectors, programmers and quality engineers. Supports manufacturing and engineering departments in quality engineering and inspection related activities. Performs the following functions and or manages those who: design, install and evaluates quality assurance process sampling systems, procedures and statistical techniques; designs or specifies inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment; analyzes production and service limitations and standards; recommends revision of specifications when indicated. Assists VP Of Quality in formulating quality assurance policies and procedures in compliance with ISO 9000, ISO 13485 Medical and ISO TS 16949 Automotive as well as other customer specific requirements. Conducts training on quality assurance concepts and tools. Interfaces with all other engineering and manufacturing groups within the company and with customers and suppliers on quality related issues. Key member of the APQP, Contract Review and Corrective Action teams. Travel 10% of time.

Position Functions:
•Manages and schedules inspectors and Vision/CMM programmer regarding daily production and new tooling programs.
•Trains inspectors in measurement techniques and equipment utilizing the following: micrometers, calipers, special gages, comparators, tensile testers, micro hardness testers, programmable visions systems and other advanced measuring systems.
•High degree of interface with customers, sales, manufacturing and engineering to resolve quality issues. Assist in analyzing customer and supplier complaints; often a team leader or facilitator of 8D Corrective Action teams.
•Prepare special reports for internal and external use: statistical reports, customer PAPPs, work with external metallurgical laboratories, platers and heat treaters to solve problems.
•Develop Inspection Control Plans and methods including fixture and gage design.
•Interpret blueprints and specifications related to geometric tolerancing, gauging, statistical requirements and related specifications. Provide interpretation and guidance within the quality group and to manufacturing and engineering departments.
•Member of the Advanced Product Quality Planning Team (APQP) working on contract review and the development of new programs within the company.
•Participate with Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering to develop FMEA's, Process Flow Charts, and Inspection Control Plans. Assure that quality requirements are understood and attainable.
•Responsible for document control of blueprints and specifications within the QA department
•Lead Auditor: Participates in internal, supplier, customer and registrar audits.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required:
•Four year college degree or equivalent work experience.
•3-5 years experience in Quality Control/Assurance in a tightly toleranced industry with an automotive
and medical customer base.
•Requires verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate technical
information to people of various degrees of ability.
•Must be organized and detail oriented.
•Needs a thorough understanding of automotive and medical industry quality requirements
(APQP, FMEA, Process Flows, Control Plans, Measurement System Analysis)
•Knowledgeable in the following Military Specifications: MIL-STD-45208A, MIL-STD-45662, MILQ9858A, General knowledge of ISO 9000, ISO TS 167949 Automotive; ISO 13485 Medical and other company and customer requirements as required.
•Must have general knowledge and training in the prinicples related to metals or resins.
•Individual must be proficient in blueprint interpretation, geometric tolerancing and statistics.
•Must be computer literate in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
•Requires a high degree of competency of various types of measuring equipment: basic mechanical instruments, complex programmable vision systems and computerized data collection systems.
