Quality Control Inspector

Location: Pitkin Yard, Brooklyn, NY
Shift: 1st Shift
Duration: Contract – Temp to Hire
Pay Rate: $23.00–$33.00/hr (depending on experience)

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Quality Control Inspector to support rail car manufacturing operations at our Pitkin Yard facility in Brooklyn, NY. This role is responsible for inspecting rail car components, assemblies, and completed systems to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards. Candidates with manufacturing, transportation, aerospace, automotive, heavy industrial, or quality inspection experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Quality Control inspections on rail car components, assemblies, and finished products
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections to verify compliance with specifications and identify non-conformances
  • Follow engineering drawings, blueprints, written procedures, and verbal instructions during all inspection activities
  • Utilize inspection equipment including tape measures, calipers, micrometers, combination squares, scales, gauges, and other measuring instruments
  • Verify installation accuracy and workmanship throughout various stages of rail car production
  • Work effectively with both English and Metric measurement systems
  • Complete inspection reports, quality records, and documentation accurately and thoroughly
  • Identify quality issues and communicate findings to production, engineering, and quality teams
  • Support corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain compliance with all quality and safety procedures

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of Quality Control, Quality Inspection, or Manufacturing Inspection experience
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and gauges
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and perform inspections with minimal supervision
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with manufacturing processes
  • Comfortable working in an active industrial manufacturing environment
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and lift, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Rail car, transportation, aerospace, automotive, military, or heavy manufacturing experience
  • ASQ, quality certification, or formal inspection training
  • Experience with root cause analysis and non-conformance reporting
  • Familiarity with ISO-based quality systems and manufacturing quality documentation

Work Environment

This position is based within a rail car manufacturing facility in Brooklyn, NY, with exposure to both indoor production areas and outdoor rail yard environments. The successful candidate must be able to work safely around manufacturing equipment while maintaining high quality standards.
