    QUALITY ENGINEER
     
    Role Summary
     
    This position will be responsible for supporting the Quality Management System and Quality Department objectives.  Focus areas of this position are: Customer relations, supplier quality, improvement of existing products, introduction of new products, process development and/or improvement, GLP Quality Assurance Unit (QAU), and GLP Archiving.
     
    Key Responsibilities
    • Develop and maintain relationships with key partners and suppliers, to ensure mutual success.  Implement processes to select and re-evaluate suppliers and verify incoming materials. 
    • Ensure that outsourced processes are supported, and quality expectations are communicated.  Continually evaluate performance of outsourced process contractors. 
    • Ensure that customer needs are agreed to, captured and translated effectively into product specifications and other instructions. 
    • Measure and communicate customer feedback throughout the organization.  Ensure effective investigation of customer complaints and timely response to customers.
    • Manage customer requests for information (e.g. supplier questionnaires) and assist in customer audits of Pilot facilities and processes.
    • Support Design & Development process for new products.  Act as the new product liaison (Technical to plants) to ensure smooth scale-up of new products.
    • Provide on-site plant support for all quality system processes as needed.
    • Facilitate and lead process improvement and lean manufacturing projects within the plants.
    • Ensure effective management of nonconforming products, including reporting, investigation, capture of costs, and corrective action.
    • Conduct plant training in basic quality tools.  These can include sharing best practices across the organization, SPC, error proofing, cause mapping, and using feedback from internal customers. 
    • Assist in optimization of plant instructional tools such as work instructions and flow charts as needed.
    • Responsible for ensuring compliance with the ISO 9001 and Responsible Care Management Systems including the establishment of policies and procedures, assigning responsibilities and tracking progress.
    Competencies
     
    Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field
    • 2+ years of manufacturing experience
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff as well as customers as needed
    • Exceptional ability to partner across cross-functional teams and multiple work groups to accomplish assigned tasks
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion as needed
    • Ability to travel to plants and other locations as needed
    Recommended:
    • ASQ CQE certification
    • Experience with Lean manufacturing and quality improvement tools
    • Experience working with Sales and Customers to prevent and solve problems
