Job Title: Quality Engineer

Job Description

The Quality Engineer is responsible for addressing and resolving quality concerns from clients, such as OEMs like Honda, Subaru, and Chrysler, as well as suppliers. This role requires daily reporting and root cause analysis within client portals and involves leading quality control activities to address issues swiftly.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate Quick Response Quality Control activities to address quality issues at the point of occurrence.
  • Utilize robust root cause analysis tools, such as 5-Why, Fishbone, Ishikawa, 8D, and A3, to identify systemic issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage internal and external non-conformance, issuing and responding to 8D reports, customer complaints, and internal defect reports.
  • Support APQP activities for new product launches and changes.
  • Ensure compliance with IATF, customer-specific requirements, and internal procedures.
  • Analyze quality data from production and customer feedback to drive improvements in product quality and process reliability.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and suppliers to resolve quality issues and implement process improvements.
  • Conduct internal and layered process audits and follow up on non-conformities.
  • Support PPAP submissions and documentation in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement on the production floor.
  • Participate in FMEA and Control Plan development.
  • Provide training and coaching on quality tools, methodology, and problem-solving techniques.
  • Drive quality initiatives by engaging on the production floor, setting examples in structured problem-solving, and championing a culture of accountability and operational excellence.
  • Lead without formal authority by influencing cross-functional teams and fostering collaboration.

Essential Skills

  • Quality engineering experience.
  • Tier 1 auto experience.
  • Proficient in root cause analysis tools such as 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, and A3.
  • Experience with PPAP, APQP, FMEA, and control plans.
  • Strong understanding of IATF standards.
  • Experience with customer-specific quality systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or 5+ years in an automotive quality engineer role.
  • 3+ years of experience in a quality role within a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with quality management software is a plus.
  • Preferred experience with Honda, Subaru, or Chrysler.

Work Environment

This role is situated in a manufacturing environment that includes roll forming processes and plastic molding. The position requires being on the floor, working closely with operators to solve issues and problems, rather than working from an office. The company is established with long-standing OEM relationships and offers opportunities to establish updated quality processes and standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shelbyville, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $40.00/hr.
