Quality Control Technician

Job Description

This Quality Control Technician role focuses on investigating customer returns of blood glucose meters, strips, and sensors to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance. You will perform routine physical, chemical, and functional testing on returned products, document all activities in the complaint handling system, and support timely closure of complaint investigations in accordance with ISO and FDA quality system requirements. This position is ideal for candidates with a technical or scientific background who enjoy hands-on lab work, detailed documentation, and working with troubleshooting equipment in a regulated medical device environment.

Responsibilities

  • Safely unpack boxes of returned products and sort them accurately by product line.
  • Investigate returned blood glucose meters, strips, and sensors to determine the cause of customer complaints.
  • Use troubleshooting equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, test fixtures, and microscopes to perform detailed investigations.
  • Perform routine physical, chemical, or functional testing on products returned from the field due to customer complaints.
  • Summarize and record all test data, ensuring complete and accurate documentation of all laboratory work.
  • Document complaint investigations thoroughly and accurately in the Complaint Handling System.
  • Perform routine maintenance on individual quality records and ensure test equipment is within calibration and validity.
  • Process customer returns in a timely manner in accordance with ISO and FDA Quality System requirements.
  • Support organizational goals for timely completion and closure of complaint investigations.
  • Follow written work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) consistently and precisely.
  • Maintain good written and oral communication with team members and other stakeholders regarding investigation status and findings.
  • Work effectively in a team environment to support overall quality control and complaint handling activities.
  • Maintain a high level of focus and accuracy while performing repetitive and routine investigations.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in the medical device or biotechnology industry with a technical background is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and quality control principles in a regulated environment.
  • Ability to follow written work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) accurately.
  • Strong documentation skills with careful attention to detail.
  • Good computer skills, including the ability to perform data entry of investigation results and maintain electronic records.
  • Ability to focus and maintain accuracy while performing repetitive and routine investigations.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience or strong aptitude in inspection and quality-related work.
  • Comfort using troubleshooting and laboratory equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, test fixtures, microscopes, and other lab instruments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the medical device or biotech industry is preferred but not strictly required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • An associate (two-year) degree in biomedical science or another scientific discipline may be considered.
  • Recent college graduates with a bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or technical field are an ideal fit for this entry-level role.
  • Familiarity with ISO and FDA Quality System requirements is beneficial.
  • Prior experience in inspection, quality control, or laboratory testing is a strong plus.

Work Environment

This is a fully on-site role based at a facility in Richmond, CA, working five days per week. Work takes place in a controlled manufacturing or sterilization environment that supports medical device production and testing. The position may require standing for extended periods and lifting items weighing approximately 25-40 pounds. You will work with laboratory and troubleshooting equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, test fixtures, microscopes, and other instruments commonly used in quality control and complaint investigations. The environment emphasizes adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO standards, and FDA Quality System regulations, with a strong focus on accuracy, documentation, and teamwork.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $33.00/hr.
