Summary/Objective:
The QA/QC Specialist – Pipefitting & Welding is responsible for monitoring and verifying the quality of pipefitting, welding, fabrication, and installation activities in the field and/or shop. This role ensures work is performed in accordance with project specifications, approved submittals, applicable codes, welding procedures, company standards, and client expectations. The position also requires daily documentation, observations, photo records, and follow-up of corrective actions in Procore.
Essential Functions:
Review drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and applicable quality requirements before work begins
Verify that materials received in the field or shop match approved submittals and project requirements
Inspect pipe fit-up prior to welding, including alignment, joint preparation, cleanliness, and overall readiness
Monitor welding activities to verify compliance with approved procedures, qualified personnel, and acceptable workmanship
Perform visual inspections of welded joints and pipe installations for quality, alignment, support, layout, and overall compliance
Coordinate or verify required testing and inspection activities as applicable to the project
Identify nonconforming work, document deficiencies, issue observations, and track corrective actions through completion
Maintain accurate QA/QC records, including inspection reports, photo documentation, material verification, test records, and closeout items
Work closely with superintendents, foremen, project management, and field crews to resolve quality issues and prevent rework
Support project turnover by ensuring quality documentation is complete and properly organized
Daily Responsibilities
Walk active work areas and inspect ongoing pipefitting and welding activities
Verify crews are installing work in accordance with drawings, approved details, and company standards
Check weld preparation and completed welds for visible quality concerns before the next phase of work begins
Document observations in Procore with photos, clear descriptions, location references, and assigned responsibility
Communicate deficiencies to field leadership and follow up until corrected
Record daily quality-related activity, inspections, tests witnessed, deficiencies found, and corrective actions taken
Verify that previously identified issues have been corrected and properly closed out
Supervisory Responsibility: No
Required:
Strong field experience in pipefitting, piping systems, welding, or QA/QC inspection in commercial or industrial construction
Ability to read and interpret drawings, piping layouts, specifications, and approved submittals
Working knowledge of installation quality requirements, weld preparation, and visual inspection standards
Experience with field documentation and digital reporting systems such as Procore
Strong communication and follow-up skills with the ability to work effectively with field teams and project leadership
Proven track record working with people, teams and projects
Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills
Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
Must be available to work assigned schedules
Preferred:
Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving
Any additional welding inspection certifications would be considered a plus
