Overview:

The QA MRB Specialist is responsible for the review, coordination, and processing of nonconforming material through the Material Review Board (MRB) system. This role ensures accurate documentation, proper disposition routing, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. The position serves as a key liaison between Quality, Engineering, Production, and Customers to drive timely resolution of nonconformances and support effective corrective action implementation.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and process nonconforming material reports (NCRs) for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal procedures.
  • Coordinate MRB activities, including routing discrepancies to Engineering and other stakeholders for disposition.
  • Ensure proper classification of nonconformances (use-as-is, rework, rework, scrap, return to vendor).
  • Verify supporting documentation such as drawings, specifications, inspection results, and certifications.
  • Track MRB status to ensure timely disposition and closure aligned with production and delivery schedules.
  • Communicate with Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, and Quality personnel to resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure all MRB documentation is properly recorded and maintained within quality systems.

Corrective Action & Root Cause

  • Lead root cause investigations for internal nonconformances using structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, or similar tools).
  • Develop, document, and track corrective actions to closure, ensuring actions address true root cause and prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions and verify effectiveness.
  • Monitor trends in nonconformance data and identify recurring issues requiring systemic corrective action.
  • Support customer and regulatory audits by providing MRB records and objective evidence.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, customer-specific requirements, and internal quality procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3–5 years of experience in aerospace quality, inspection, or manufacturing environment preferred
  • Experience with NCR processing, MRB systems, and corrective action processes strongly preferred

Technical Skills

  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T
  • Working knowledge of MRB processes and nonconformance disposition methods
  • Familiarity with AS9100 requirements related to nonconforming product and corrective action
  • Experience with ERP systems and quality databases
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to evaluate technical information
  • Ability to manage multiple NCRs and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to challenge incomplete or unclear information and drive resolution
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills to ensure timely closure of MRB items
  • Practical understanding of root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and inspection methods

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Regular use of hands, reaching, and communication (talking/hearing)
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
  • Work performed in both office and shop floor environments
  • Exposure to moderate to high noise levels in manufacturing areas
