Title: QA Lead (Playwright)
Location: Remote
Rate: $25-30/hour
We're looking for a hands-on QA Lead with strong Playwright expertise to drive quality across manual and automated testing. This role requires a mature QA professional who can lead by example, become a subject matter expert (SME) on the application, and serve as a trusted partner to both internal engineering teams and clients.
The ideal candidate combines deep testing expertise with excellent communication skills, an automation-first mindset, and the ability to make sound quality decisions. AI should be a natural part of their day-to-day testing workflow.
Responsibilities
- Lead quality efforts across manual and automated testing initiatives.
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites using Playwright.
- Perform thorough manual testing to validate functionality, workflows, and edge cases.
- Become the QA subject matter expert (SME) for the application and understand end-to-end business workflows.
- Partner closely with developers, product teams, and clients to ensure quality is built into the software development lifecycle.
- Proactively identify quality risks, gaps in test coverage, and opportunities to improve testing processes.
- Champion an automation-first mindset while applying strong QA judgment to determine where manual testing provides the greatest value.
- Mentor and support two QA engineers, providing technical guidance and promoting QA best practices.
- Communicate testing strategy, quality risks, and release readiness clearly to both technical teams and client stakeholders.
- Collaborate with clients to understand business needs, align on testing priorities, and help resolve quality-related issues.
- Leverage AI as a standard part of testing and automation workflows to improve productivity and quality.
Qualifications
- Strong experience in software quality assurance with expertise in both manual and automated testing.
- Proven hands-on experience developing and maintaining Playwright automation frameworks.
- Strong understanding of QA methodologies, test planning, defect management, and risk-based testing.
- Automation-first mindset with the judgment to balance automation and manual testing effectively.
- Demonstrated maturity to lead testing efforts, make sound quality decisions, and work independently with minimal direction.
- Experience becoming the functional expert for complex applications and business workflows.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across engineering, product, and client teams.
- Comfortable presenting testing results, discussing quality risks, and negotiating priorities with stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring junior QA engineers or providing technical leadership.
- Experience working in Agile software development environments.
- Comfortable incorporating AI into daily QA and automation workflows.
