At Metro Transit, maintenance excellence is mission‑critical. Our Station Shop Specialists uphold safety and reliability across a 600+ vehicle fleet—buses, vans, and beyond. You’ll work on Chevys (Duramax), gas‑engine Fords, and Call‑A‑Ride Freightliners with Cummins power, while also gaining exposure to a system that’s a national leader in electric transportation.
Your mission
Own the repair cycle—from pinpointing the root cause to validating a quality fix—and keep riders moving across the Bi‑State region. Your craftsmanship directly improves the daily lives of your friends, family, and neighbors.
Core responsibilities
Diagnose, repair, and confirm performance on engines, transmissions/drivelines, air brake systems, steering/suspension, and electrical subsystems.
Execute station‑shop work including: minor seat cushion/back repairs; brake relines; differential and transmission replacements.
Read/interpret drawings, schematics, and manuals; complete inspections on all bus variants per written instructions.
Electrical service: troubleshoot circuits; adjust/replace voltage regulators and relays; repair single‑purpose wiring; solder connections.
Front‑end: repair spindle kingpins/bushings; replace steering box and components.
HVAC: perform adjustments, component swaps, and non‑teardown A/C repairs.
Body/component replacements: radiators, transmissions, surge tanks, engines, A/C evaporators, and passenger doors (door repairs completed in the main shop).
Temporary body patches without disassembly; remove sharp edges for safety compliance.
Use agency‑provided tools for minor tasks; paint limited to touch‑ups on minor body work, steering wheels, step wells, wheels, bumpers, and reflectors.
Replace side/rear or framed glass units (excluding frame repairs and curved glass).
Engine work limited to attached units: oil pan service, diesel injector replacement, valve setting.
Welding restricted to component changes and interim safety/body integrity; only trained employees assigned.
Support service continuity by handling road calls or exchanges when the primary crew is unavailable.
Document inspections, list defects, complete repairs, and communicate findings precisely.

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (required); Technical degree in Automotive or Diesel Technology (preferred)
5+ years’ experience in Automotive or Diesel Technology
Strong diagnostic ability, precision workmanship, and proficiency with technical documentation
