Public Relations/Events Specialist I

This position is under the direct supervision of the Apache Behavioral Health Services (ABHS) Quality Management (QM) Public Relations/Events Supervisor. The Public Relations/Events Specialist I is responsible for proactively providing a broad array of public relations, marketing, and event planning support as assigned by supervisor and/or other management staff, including, but not limited to, creating, and maintaining a positive public voice, identity, and image for the organization and individual. Their duties include writing and publishing press releases, providing responses to the media's information requests and monitoring public opinions of companies using social media, surveys, or polls. This position is responsible for public relations for internal and external agency business as well as agency public relations including radio, television, social media, or media print.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Planning, developing, implementing, and coordinating staff enrichment programs
  • Maintaining events and public relations calendar
  • Generating proposals, checklists, rehearsal set-up plans, menus, timelines, rental orders, advertisements, and other special orders unique to public relations
  • Creating, developing and nurturing culturally appropriate interactions and connections with employees, vendors, and the community
  • Conducting initial vetting and negotiations of contracts for all events and public relations materials
  • Serving as primary liaison with vendors on public relation-related matters
  • Responsible for on-site public relations management
  • Handling advertising for agency events
  • Ensuring all media platforms are updated with event details for pre and post events
  • Tracking events and public relations expenses and reviewing accuracy of invoices prior to submission to accounts payable
  • Providing annual plan and budget for events and public relations to supervisor and Chief Financial Officer
  • Preparing monthly reports to supervisor on projects, accomplishments, and goals
  • Performing events and public relations and marketing duties/projects as requested by supervisor or other management
  • Ensuring brand consistency across marketing materials
  • Evaluating advertising and promotional programs to ensure they match with company event and PR goals
  • Ensuring marketing teams tell effective brand stories
  • Responding to information requests from clients and members of the media
  • Writing press releases and other promotional material to promote an organization
  • Writing or editing speeches
  • Preparing and delivering speeches to address consumers and give insight on company objectives
  • Collaborating with other departmental heads to develop marketing and sales strategies
  • Ability to work independently
  • Attending all staff meetings, in-service training or other ABHS staff functions as directed/required
  • Providing responsive, high-quality service to ABHS employees, representatives of outside agencies and members of the public by providing accurate, complete, and up-to-date information, in a courteous, efficient and timely manner
  • Maintaining a strict code of ethics regarding client/staff confidentiality, adhering to all HIPAA regulations
  • Abiding by all applicable policies, procedures, and program standards of ABHS, White Mountain Apache Tribe, Indian Health Services, Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) and other pertinent regulatory authorities
  • Participation in all required ABHS training
  • Reporting/attending work in timely manner
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications include:

  • GED or high school diploma and Associates of Arts (AA) degree or higher plus two years of public relations/marketing experience; Mental Health or Managed Care work experience preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to speak the Apache language preferred
  • Demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving and organizational and time management skills with ability to work independently, with flexibility within prescribed deadlines
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills with an ability to work effectively and harmoniously with a wide range of people, teams, managers, supervisors
  • Technology/computer proficiency, including intermediate computer skills in MS Office, Adobe software, social media platforms, copy machine, scanner, and fax machine/software
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass all pre-employment testing, including, but not limited to, fingerprint clearance and background check
  • Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act (Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473)
