Duties Description The Public Information Specialist (Digital Content) duties in our Office of Public Affairs will include but are not limited to the following:
Reporting to the Director of Public Information, the Public Information Specialist (Digital Content) in the Public Information Office (PIO) will include but are not limited to the following:
The Website Specialist will lead efforts to modernize and maintain the Department's extensive web presence, which includes hundreds of webpages supporting numerous divisions, programs, and public-facing services.
Key responsibilities will include:
The Department's website is often the first point of contact for residents seeking information or services. Many existing webpages require modernization to align with current digital standards and customer expectations. A dedicated Website Content Officer will improve the user experience, reduce customer frustration, increase self-service utilization, and support the agency's broader digital transformation goals.
Minimum Qualifications NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six years of experience in public relations, social media, and digital communications.
Substitutions: Associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, or similar degree, substitutes for two, four, or five years.

Positions located within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, are also eligible to receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment.
For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
NOTE ON TELECOMMUTING: The Department of State employees may be approved for a maximum of 50% telecommuting, however, they are required to apply and obtain approval through management in accordance with The Department of State Telecommuting Program Guidelines.
