The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of the Secretary has a vacancy.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety, and welfare.

We are looking for a communications professional to join our team! We would like this individual to have experience or interest in graphic design, video editing, or Photoshop. This job requires the use of writing, editing, photography, and videography skills to tell a story. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can summarize a message and transmit the information via writing, images, and/or video content. Strong interpersonal skills are essential. Some background in science would be helpful, but it is not a requirement. Social media fluency and internet experience are also desirable, but the ability to talk with coworkers and the public and exercise journalistic inquiry is the top requirement.

An ideal candidate should possess the following competencies:

Communicating Effectively: The ability to convey information, ideas, and emotions using structured communication methods that promote understanding and engagement.

Following Policies and Procedures: The ability to follow, reinforce, adapt, or develop policies and procedures to maintain compliance with federal and state legal requirements, State Civil Service rules, and organizational policies.

Thinking Critically: The ability to analyze information objectively, identify connections across sources, and form logical, well-supported conclusions.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, content creation, social media management, or graphic design; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR

A bachelors degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Produce and publish videos that highlight LDEQs staff and their work.

  • Take photographs at official events.

  • Interact with the press and public via phone and provide information about activities and events at LDEQ.

  • Write press releases about LDEQ achievements, activities and scheduled events.

  • Help edit copy and edit videos.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: This position will be filled as a job appointment (a temporary appointment not to exceed four years). This position could be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available.

Domicile: East Baton Rouge

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Public Information Officer 1, 2, or 3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.
