Duties and Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for journalism, public relations/media experience at an institution of higher education; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Experience in creating effective presentations that display data, events, and activities in a clear, concise manner using a variety of media.
Experience in writing and editing news releases, articles and speeches and adapting them to various audiences, including community members, State entities and the general media.
Experience in converting basic information into items of interest to the media and the general public.
Demonstrated ability in establishing & maintaining effective working relationships with groups such as county, State & federal government entities, community leaders, students, administrators, alumni, representatives of media organizations and/or general public.
Experience using presentation software applications, publication software, social networking services, and/or video-sharing websites.
Proficient with web content management systems (WordPress or similar); proficient with online marketing, social networking, Google analytics, and/or other online marketing tools/platforms.
Experience in creating and editing video media stories.
Ability to efficiently adapt to the ever-changing needs of a day-to-day operation; responding calmly and professionally in high-pressure situations.
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
Ability to use a company-issued cell phone to maintain timely communication.
Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of journalism, public relations, education, social service and/or government relations as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with journalism, media and/or public relations.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply Microsoft Office software.
If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
