Summary

This job is open to National Guard and reserves, current members who want to join or transitioning military members. This is an open continuous announcement. Initial cutoff will be 27 MARCH 2026. Recruitment will continue through the announcement closing date until the position is filled.

Duties

As a PUBLIC HEALTH TECHNICIAN TITLE 32 GS-0640-8, you will achieve and maintain Force Health Protection through planning, evaluating, and management principles related to epidemiological, operational, and occupational, and public health programs. This includes:

  • Occupational health, hearing conservation, reproductive health, bloodborne pathogens, exposure control, communicable disease control, immunization, disease vector surveillance, disease, epidemiological surveillance, aircraft inspection, facility sanitation, food safety, and vulnerability health risk assessment, medical intelligence, and operational medicine.

  • Assignment to a compatible military position is not required for application but will be required if selected for appointment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION

The areas of consideration for this position Title 32 Excepted Service 32 U.S. Code § 709 will be in the following manner and sequence:

  • The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
  • The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
  • The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
  • The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
  • The FIFTH area of consideration will be U.S. Citizens.

Specialized Experience

GS-08 Level - MUST possess 1- year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade. Experience, education, or training which provided a working knowledge of missions, organizations, programs, and requirements of health care, aerospace, and operational delivery systems, experience analyzing and recommending solutions to complicated problems, experience developing and implementing various policies and procedures used in the guard medical programs, experience involving various administrative areas such as medical resources, personnel, and public relations within a medical activity.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone. No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this occupational series and grade.
