Position Overview The Nurse Educator is responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating, and revising educational programs for nursing staff, students, and other healthcare professionals. This role supports clinical excellence by fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development. The Nurse Educator serves as a mentor, resources, and role model, promoting evidence-based practice and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Examples of Duties • Develop and delivery orientation programs for new nursing staff. • Plan and conduct continuing education sessions, in-services, and competency assessments. • Collaborate with nursing leadership to identify learning needs and create targeted educational interventions. • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and revise content as needed. • Support quality improvement initiatives and promote best practices. • Maintain accurate records of educational activities and staff participation. • Stay current with trends in nursing education, clinical practice, and healthcare regulations. • Participate in policy development and implementation related to clinical education. • Assist with coordinating cross-training of nursing staff. • Create employee health files upon hire. • Audit and monitor employee health records to include vaccines and CPR file. • Maintain and store employee health records. • Cross trains in all clinical areas. • Serve as a floater nurse for clinical nursing staff shortages

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and two years of Public Health nursing experience; or a Masters in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience; or graduation from a school of professional nursing and three years of professional nursing experience including two years of Public Health nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Individuals employed in a local Health Department without a B.S. Degree which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation or a Master's in Public Health, will be required to complete an introductory course in principles and practices of public health nursing sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services- Division of Public Health within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Health Services Commission Rule, 10 NCAC 46.0301.

Necessary Special Qualifications • A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. • Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited universities. • Applicants who have obtained their education outside of the U.S. and its territories must have their academic degrees validated as equivalent to the degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) is a referral resource for applicants who need to have their credentials certified as equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Considerable knowledge of, and skill in, the application of nursing theory, practice, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs. • Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health including epidemiology and law. • Working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health, including health disparities. • Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions. • Ability to secure the cooperation of clients and staff members to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships. • Strong computer skills to accurately record assessments, interventions, care plans and other services rendered, to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions to allow communications of patient record documentation and accessing of information. • Ability to plan, coordinate and evaluate the work of others. • Competent in the ability to triage and must possess an understanding of the departmental and organizational management. • Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner. • Ability to demonstrate a pleasant, friendly, helpful, courteous, and approachable demeanor with staff, clients, and other agencies. • Ability to work successfully in group and teamwork setting.

Must have or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina drivers license with an acceptable driving record. Background check and negative drug test are required.
