Duties Description The incumbent of this position will serve as the Director of the Empire State Plaza reporting to the Executive Director of Real Property & Facilities Management. Duties include but are not limited to:

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:
Required experience:
Eight years of experience managing an occupied building with a gross square footage of at least 350,000 or a complex of occupied buildings totaling at least 500,000 square feet, at least four of which must have included supervision of service contractors or in-house staff, including plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and other skilled trade people. This experience MUST include overall responsibility for building maintenance (including HVAC), minor building rehabilitation, and at least one of the following three areas of expertise: grounds maintenance, security and access control, or cleaning oversight including sanitary requirements and inspection.
Substitutions: An associate degree in construction management, construction technology, facilities management, engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, business, business administration, or public administration may substitute for two years of the general experience, or a bachelor's degree in the above fields may substitute for three years of the general experience.

Applicants may be appointed to this position if they are a current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade M-2 or SG-26/27 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK.
