Job Objective & Safety/Security Sensitive Designation

Job Objective: To provide non-instructor support to the Little Rock Police Department Training Division in the development, coordination, and implementation of training objectives for Police Recruits and sworn Police Officers. The Part-Time Civilian Training Assistant works directly under sworn Training Instructors and serves as primary support staff for training-related administrative and logistical functions.

Note: The Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST) does not recognize past Instructor Development or Firearms Instructor certifications obtained in a sworn capacity once an individual transitions to a civilian role. Therefore, the individual in this position is not authorized to instruct or evaluate sworn personnel unless CLEST specifically approves them to teach a subject as a recognized expert.

This position is designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Minimum Qualifications, Additional Requirements and Supervisory Responsibilities

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through the completion of high school and three (3) to five (5) years of experience working as a police officerand at least one (1) year of personal computer experience..Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

  • Must be of good character, as determined through a background investigation.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer terminal.

Regular part-time employees who work 1,500 hours shall receive six (6) days of Sick Leave upon the completion of the 1,500 hours. If unused, this Sick Leave shall be allowed to accumulate to a maximum of fifteen (15) days (120 hours). Regular, full-time non-probationary employees who transfer to Regular, part-time positions will receive credit for the previous years service for purposes of Sick Leave accrual and may carry over accrued Sick Leave accrual up to the maximum noted above.

Regular part-time employees who were in pay status (vacation, sick leave, or actual hours worked) for at least 1,500 hours during the year shall receive the following Vacation Leave:

Up to 10 years of service (40 hrs.) = 5 days per year

10 years or more (60 hrs.) = 7-1/2 days per year
