InGenesis is currently seeking a Psychiatric Technician to work with our client. In this role, you will provide compassionate, hands-on care and behavioral support to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or severe psychiatric conditions in residential and community settings. This role involves direct care, coaching, and implementation of nursing and behavioral support plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Direct Care: Assist with daily living activities (bathing, grooming, meals), household tasks, and promote independence.
  • Support Engagement: Escort individuals to appointments and community activities; help with recreational, vocational, and educational programs.
  • Monitor & Report: Observe behavior and health changes, document incidents, and follow intervention plans.
  • Perform Nursing Tasks: Administer medications, record vital signs, and assist nurses with care.
  • Collaborate with Team: Participate in care planning, attend reviews, and help train new staff.
  • Maintain Flexibility: Work various shifts/sites, complete required training, and occasionally act as Shift Lead.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent interaction with individuals with developmental disabilities and severe behavioral/psychiatric conditions.
  • Exposure to clinical environments and potential health risks.
  • Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs and performing hands-on interventions.
  • May involve travel and mandatory overtime.
  • Must demonstrate cultural sensitivity, trauma-informed care, and person-centered practices.

Qualifications:

  • Valid and current Psychiatric Technician license (California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technicians).
  • Must obtain Registered Behavior Technician certification within 365 days of employment.
  • Minimum six months of direct care experience with individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors.
  • Completion of Direct Support Professional I & II or challenge test within one year.
  • Valid driver’s license, CPR, CPI, Ukeru, and other mandatory facility training.

  • Provide psychiatric interventions for patients
  • Develop a therapeutic relationship with psychiatric patients
  • Perform psychiatric testing/screening evaluations
  • Providing reasonable and prudent psychiatric/medical care
  • Support the care of the psychiatric/behavioral patients in the emergency department
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations for clients who present co-occurring symptoms and/or psychiatric diagnosis
  • Identify and respond to medical/psychiatric emergencies
  • Perform psychiatric nursing procedures, such as administer medications and treatment
  • Setting providing direct psychiatric evaluation, treatment recommendations and making appropriate referrals
  • Establish priorities in patient care
  • Respond during a psychiatric emergency using least restrictive measures to assure patient safety
  • Assist in treatment and rehabilitation of patients
  • Identify mental health and nursing diagnoses, and provide patient education
  • Delivering high-quality patient care
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, monitor medication, contribute to differential diagnosis/treatment planning
  • Conduct intakes, assist with care and treatment of psychiatric, drug and alcohol patients, and counsel clients/patients with personal, behavioral or psychological problems
  • Providing basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to mentally or developmentally disabled patient-inmates/youths
  • Providing basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to mentally or developmentally disabled patient-inmates/youths
  • Assist staff with agitated patients
  • Treat patients as an individual, and consider the culture of the patients when providing care and treatment
