The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides comprehensive psychiatric care to patients across the lifespan, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental health conditions. The PMHNP works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, evidence-based mental health services in an outpatient clinical setting.
key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments
Diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders according to DSM-5 criteria
Develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment plans
Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications
Provide psychotherapy and patient education
Monitor treatment effectiveness and patient progress
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and support staff
Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and regulatory standards
Participate in quality improvement initiatives
Maintain professional knowledge through continuing education
Qualifications & Requirements:
Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing with specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health
Board Certified PMHNP (PMHNP-BC)
Active, unrestricted Virginia Nurse Practitioner license
Active DEA registration and prescriptive authority
Excellent clinical judgment and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Willingness to commit to a 1-year employment contract
