We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and medication management for patients across the lifespan. The PMHNP functions as an advanced practice provider specializing in mental health and behavioral healthcare, serving patients in outpatient clinics, inpatient psychiatric units, crisis centers, telehealth platforms, and community mental health settings.
This role requires expertise in psychiatric evaluation, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and collaborative mental healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
Psychiatric Evaluation & Diagnosis
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, mental status exams, and psychosocial evaluations
Diagnose mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, ADHD, and substance use disorders
Develop individualized treatment plans using evidence-based psychiatric care
Order and interpret relevant laboratory tests or diagnostic studies related to psychiatric medication management
Evaluate suicide risk, self-harm behaviors, and psychiatric crises
Medication Management & Therapeutic Interventions
Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications within scope of practice
Provide medication education and adherence counseling to patients and families
Monitor therapeutic outcomes, side effects, and medication safety
Offer supportive psychotherapy, counseling, and behavioral interventions
Coordinate non-pharmacologic interventions including therapy referrals and social support services
Crisis Intervention & Behavioral Health Management
Respond to psychiatric emergencies including suicidal ideation, psychosis, or severe behavioral disturbances
Support inpatient psychiatric stabilization or outpatient crisis care
Collaborate with therapists, psychiatrists, social workers, and primary care providers
Coordinate care transitions for higher levels of psychiatric treatment when necessary
Documentation, Compliance & Care Coordination
Maintain accurate psychiatric documentation in EMR systems
Ensure compliance with mental health regulations, prescribing laws, and licensure standards
Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and behavioral health case reviews
Maintain confidentiality and ethical practice standards
Requirements:
Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN, DNP) with Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialization
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Active PMHNP certification and state licensure
DEA registration and controlled substance prescribing authority (where applicable)
Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology and psychiatric diagnostics
Excellent therapeutic communication and crisis intervention skills
Ability to manage complex psychiatric and behavioral cases independently
Proficiency in EMR systems and psychiatric documentation
Preferred (Nice-to-Have):
Experience in outpatient psychiatry, inpatient psych, addiction medicine, or crisis care
Experience with child/adolescent psychiatry, substance use treatment, or severe mental illness populations
Training in psychotherapy modalities (CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care)
Telepsychiatry experience
Bilingual or multilingual communication skills
Leadership experience in behavioral health teams
