Benefits --------

The Preschool Services Department (PSD) is excited to offer an exciting opportunity to be a part of a waiver program that will advance your career in Child Development. The program will assist in obtaining a CA Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) as well as assistance with education completion.

Successful candidates who complete education and permit requirements will gain regular status as a Teacher II who provide teaching instruction and supervision to pre-school age children at a Head Start site or home-based program. Teachers will develop and provide educational, nutritional, and health/safety activities; conduct home visits; attend staff and parent committee meetings, observe, report and document on the progress of children; document disabilities; report suspected child abuse; communicate with staff, parents, and children; and supervise teacher aides.

Conditions of Employment ------------------------

  1. Must be able to lift and carry a small child (up to 50 lbs.) as needed/in the event of an emergency. Other physical demands include: sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, twisting, grasping, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling, reaching, stooping, using smell and touch, working outside and vision and hearing.

  2. Must pass a pre-employment physical including a tuberculosis test and required immunizations (SB792).

  3. Must complete the AB 1207 - Child Care Providers: Mandated Reporter Training prior to placement at a school site.

  4. Must obtain a valid San Bernardino County Food Handlers card and qualifying First Aid/CPR cards within two (2) weeks of hire and maintain throughout employment.

  5. A valid California Class C Driver License may be required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

  6. Incumbents must complete waiver and educational requirements (completed Associate degree program in Early Childhood Education and Child Development and Child Development Teacher Permit) within eighteen (18) months or be removed or terminated from employment as a Teacher II.

Background Investigation ------------------------

Job offers are contingent upon passing a background investigation which includes a fingerprint check and search of the Child Abuse Index before appointment. If an individual has been convicted of a crime other than a minor traffic violation, the individual cannot work or be present in any community care facility unless they request and subsequently obtain a criminal record exemption from the Community Care Licensing Division, Care Provider Management Bureau (CPMB).

CANDIDATES MUST MEET ALL OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

  • CHILD DEVELOPMENT PERMIT: Must possess a valid/active CA Associate Teacher Permit (or higher-level permit) issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
  • EDUCATION: Must be currently enrolled in an Associate degree program in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.

Copy of the required valid/active CA Child Development Associate Teacher Permit (or higher-level permit) AND current Educational Plan and transcripts showing the courses needed to complete the Associate Degree program as indicated above (unofficial are accepted and must be legible). Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
