The University of Utah Department of Emergency Medicine is looking to hire an energetic, professional, skilled Nurse Practitioner to join our team and provide care to patients in multiple emergency department locations. We are seeking candidates with a minimum of two years experience working in Emergency Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner. The Department of Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) duties will include providing care to patients in the University of Utah Hospital Emergency Department and South Jordan Health Center Emergency Department, as well as additional community locations in the future. Expectations include performing routine physical exams, ordering laboratory tests, x-rays and special imaging studies. Additional expectations include performing routine emergency department procedures, communicating and consulting with emergency department and other consulting physicians.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.
  • Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient's condition.
  • Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
  • Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
  • Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promotes health maintenance.
  • Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.
  • Problem Solving

Demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills.

Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.

Preferred

  • Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
  • Utah State prescriptive privileges.
  • Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
  • UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work.
