POSITION SUMMARY: To provide students with foundational knowledge and skills that support careers and/or post-secondary opportunities in hospitality, culinary arts, and customer service-focused industries.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE: At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:
  1. Have a valid teacher's certificate/license or be eligible under the licensure process for Professional and Technical Education Teachers (7-12), Family and Consumer Sciences (7-12), Business (7-12), and Marketing (7-12), COMAR 13A.12.03:
  2. Possess and maintain ServSafe Food Handler and Manager Certifications.
  3. Valid Maryland driver's license. The chosen candidate will be required to provide Calvert County Public Schools with a current copy of his/her Maryland driving record prior to the start of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities, and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions. At the time of employment, the candidate must have:
  1. Knowledge of basic food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety practices aligned to restaurant and hospitality industry expectations.
  2. General understanding of hospitality and food service operations, including customer service, food preparation, and workplace organization.
  3. Ability to safely use standard kitchen tools and equipment in an instructional setting.
  4. Ability to follow and teach basic recipes, procedures, and organizational systems used in food service and hospitality environments.
  5. Understanding of common food products and proper handling, storage, and preparation techniques.
  6. Knowledge of foundational hospitality business practices, including basic cost control, inventory awareness, pricing, and introductory management concepts relevant to food service and hospitality operations.
  7. Awareness of hospitality industry practices, including teamwork, professionalism, and guest service expectations.
  8. Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication.
  9. Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, staff, and community members.
  10. Understanding of and ability to build positive relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
  12. Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks related to the responsibilities listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:
  1. Implement and maintain a ProStart-aligned hospitality and culinary program that introduces students to foundational skills in food service, customer service, and hospitality operations.
  2. Develop, select, and adapt instructional materials to meet the needs of all learners.
  3. Prepare students for entry-level employment and further education in hospitality, culinary, tourism, and related fields.
  4. Support students in earning industry-recognized credentials, such as food safety certifications, as appropriate.
  5. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and skill development.
  6. Establish and maintain a safe, clean, and organized kitchen and classroom environment that supports hands-on learning.
  7. Monitor and support student participation in work-based learning experiences and apprenticeship placements, including building partnerships with local businesses, coordinating placements, and ensuring alignment to program goals and industry expectations.
  8. Establish individual student goals and plans for student placements in registered apprenticeship and work-based learning experiences, working with employers/community partners and in accordance with department of labor registered apprenticeship standards where appropriate.
  9. Work with Program Advisory Committee (PAC) members to ensure the program reflects current industry practices.
  10. Identify materials and equipment needed to support effective instruction and maintain an up-to-date learning environment.
  11. Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies, ensuring proper use, care, and storage.
  12. Follow school and district procedures for ordering and managing instructional materials and supplies.
  13. Build partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to support student learning and program growth.
  14. Communicate regularly with students, families, staff, and community partners.
  15. Participate in and support student organizations such as ProStart competitions or related CTSO activities.
  16. Reports to work regularly and on time.
  17. Performs duties under typical school conditions and meets required timelines.

OTHER DUTIES: Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned. Performs related work as required or assigned by assigned Principal. This position requires the monitoring of work-based learning placements in the community setting and may require the instructor to travel to locations to observe students or work with employers in support of work-based learning placements. As some work-based learning may occur outside of the regular contract day, this position is subject to flexible work hours.

PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CONDITIONS/DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting. Duties are performed in a classroom and laboratory/shop environment that simulates a commercial kitchen. May include the operation of tools and equipment, lifting and carrying materials of up to 30lbs, and performing duties related to regular upkeep (cleanliness and sanitation) of a commercial kitchen environment such as cleaning of kitchen equipment and areas as would be required as part of regular health department codes and expectations.

UNUSUAL DEMANDS: N/A

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten (10) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools' salary schedule. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.
